Other than the Cooeys, maybe take a look at the Baikal M18s. Some models have an ejector/extractor switch. Solid guns, in terms of built quality a step above the Cooeys.

Had a 20 ga. which I wish hadn't sold.

These things are built pretty rugged.

Ah thanks good to know. They did have a used baikal at the gun shop here which I handled and liked, but being a new to guns guy I didnt know if it was a good brand or not. I'll keep that in mind.

I see a cutoff baikal 12 Ga on the EE here for a good price I may pursue that since I had planned to cut off the fixed chose anyway.

Baikal is Russian. Maybe not the prettiest girl at the ball, but built to last.

A fair number of Baikal doubles on intersurplus. Some are quite cheap if you can repair a few cracks in the stocks.

I haven't read all the posts but I would suggest buying a Model 37 Winchester. They're marked "Steelbuilt" because the M37 was all steel and wood, no cheap die cast or pot metal. The M37 is a robust handy little single shot shotgun. Don't confuse the M37 with the M37A or the M370, these later two models are post 64 guns and not the high quality of the pre-64 Model 37.

Another great single shot is the AyA cosmos. Very sturdy and well built single. I love mine

For that price range, I'd probably scoop up an old Cooey 84 in good shape off the EE. Probably be a better gun all around.

X2 .... I'd buy a used Cooey any day over a new gun.

I'd forget the guns in your list, and look at a vintage CIL402/Remington812 or a Winchester/Cooey or something. You can get them for $150 and they're well-buit and reliable (unlike the crap you see these days under $1000). I'm still using my Dad's single shot for grouse and it's got to be 65 years old. Still locks up tight and functions like the day it was bought.
