Curious to know if anyone here has any effective method of hunting raccoons without dogs, particularly at night. Would definitely be interested in hunting them if I didn't have to use hounds.
Hunting at night, you MUST be accompanied by a dog licenced to hunt raccoons.
But there are methods during daylight hours, calling can work, particularly if you can locate and get close to a den tree... also, staking out apple orchards can net several coons at a stand... mostly right at last legal light.
Wouldn't be a problem here if it wasn't for discharge laws. Fricken things chase ME around!!![]()

Does the dog have to be alive???
A tin of wet cat food with holes punched in it and wired to a stake works to bring them in.
P.s. The cheaper the better, made with fish meal, not the gourmet crap.
If you can locate a den tree set up an e-caller a few yards from the base and play raccoon fight on it. They often respond pretty good to it and come out of the tree to investigate the fight.
