Can you hunt with 2 rifles?
It is NOT legal in BC to use an air pistol for hunting.
I have a Webley Hurricane that I thought would be very good for that, even had a cop friend wanting to give me a holster to carry it. NO CAN DO.

It's stupid from the outset but I'm sure some bureaucrat has a good reason.

I carry a 10-22 in the truck for grouse, but pass up on birds when I'm getting close to where I think I'll be spending the day.

In Ontario you can use an air pistol. At least, that's according to an OPP officer that I was speaking with regarding the fact that he was using an air pistol to dispatch of grouse while on a moose hunt a few years ago.

Doesn't anyone actually read the regulations?? ;)

So yes ................ you can use an air pistol for hunting in Ontario (NOT in BC ) as long as it has a muzzle velocity of less than 500 fps.

From the 2005 Ontario hunting regulations:

Firearms include air or pellet guns, bows and crossbows. You
may use semi-automatic or repeating firearms for hunting in
Ontario, but not handguns or fully automatic firearms. Air
and pellet pistols with a muzzle velocity less than 500 feet
per second may be used for hunting in Ontario.

Ah Boo you already read the new regs, last time I read them there was no mention of handgun hunting period. Maybe I'll take mine with me this year.

air pistols are not firearms from CFC p.o.w.
they are firearms from MNR perspective.
But handguns are not permitted for hunting.

amazingly, air pistols are allowed, contrare to all logic.
Called the MNR and got the guy's name. He mentioned though that the pistol must provide enough energy for a humane kill. No softballs here..

if you read my location, It is southernmost. Look at the map. We travel due North to get to US :D

do not know about other provinces.
saw Thomas Pigeon shooting a ptarmigan with a bow. is that ok in your neck of the woods?

I know of a guy that used to ride a dirt bike to the top of a FSR, with a .22 and a .270 strapped to his back.

He'd coast down, and use the .22 if he saw a goruse, the .270 for deer.

Hey Savage shooter,

Why two guns?

Is the .308 not enough for the grouse

Oh no, I feel another cheesy defense against small game thread coming on.

Actually I opted not to take two guns. I just took my shottie loaded with a rifled slug first and then a #5 shot and then a 7.5 shot shell in the spout. I figured if I came across a deer that hadn't fleed after hearing me tromp through the bush trying to flush grouse then just maybe it would sit still long enough for my to cycle twice and shoot the slug.
This also gave me a bit of confidence as there are many bears where we grouse hunt.
