Can you identify this? I bought,what I THOUGHT was a 99 Arisaka.Not so sure now!

Well I thought the price was right so I went ahead and bought this sucker.
Not really sure what the hell it is and thought I'd ask the experts.
The markings on it seem more Arabic than Japanese.
Was told it was a 7.7 Jap and the bore seems to be about that, but it resembles the type 38 more than the 99(or at least the pics I have searched out on the net so far.)

HELP??

Siamese Type 45 Mauser (1903). Japanese manufactured. Look for the Koishikawa (Tokyo) arsenal symbol on the left receiver rail.

Used it's own 8mm rimmed round (Type 45 round nose, Type 66 spitzer)

Sure enough that is what it is.
 
Obviously a lot fewer of these were made than many other service rifles. Of the ones imported to North America, probably most got broken for their actions, which were used to make bolt action .45-70 rifles. Yours is complete, with dust cover and bayonet. Not a common rifle, and yours looks to be a decent example. if you need to shoot it, there is a procedure for forming cases.
 
Siamese Mauser

I bought one of them with bayonet years ago at a gun show for $30 and I thought it was a 7.7 Arisaka. I was disappointed that it wasn't a 7.7 but that changed when I realized what it was. I don't think the bayonet matches but I like it, because it goes with my Siamese Enfield & bayonet.
 
Tiriaq, yes the old fella I acquired it from had a 45-70 in mind when he acquired it some years ago.
As I look back at the conversation I had with him he did mention that it was a 8mm rimmed and a good candidate for conversion to 45/70,so it was obviously my assumptions that were incorrect(assumed it was a 7.7 jap solely because he said he had a Japanese rifle)
Oh well,she is mine now! I'll likely give her a good cleaning and put her away,at least for awhile.

Yep, they go BONKERS for the actions in the USA. The accurate Reloading Gunsmithing forum is always aways with guys looking for those to make .45-70 Mausers sporters.

That being said, I'd not strip a nice one lest you go to Milsurp purgatory...
