Kamlooky, I think there is a difference of opinion about "where" he ^^ is going to be going, he states very clearly his intended location.

270 shooters all go to Heaven, where there are no guns, because they never really had any in the first place...............
As long as there is a .270 in Heaven then that's all the gun one person needs since its the best. Winchester should honestly rename the cartridge, The Best Cartridge In The World No Need To Know Caliber Or Specs Just Buy It. Its got a good ring to it. The info on the box would say. Caliber: The Best. Grain: Doesn't Mater. Velocity: Fast Enough. Trajectory: Just Point At It.

The .270 does do a decent job for those that like & use the bugger a bunch, but many others just don't cotton up to the .277" projectiles, like me. Had a new Husqvarna .270 way back and after a few range sessions I found it oddly uninteresting, both to reload for and shoot.
I sold 'er and got a Carl Gustav in 6.5x55 which just felt & shot much better for me.
Just a couple thoughts................MMM, I'm willing to bet you were born very shortly after the passing of JO'C........that would explain your irrational attachment to the 270 Win.........You didn't learn your lesson last go around so you have been sent back for more education..........
For those who haven't researched the 270 Win, you may be interested to know that it's arrival on the cartridge scene was through happenstance and not design. The 270 Win was actually designed by Winchester to be the cartridge we know today as the 6.5-06. Just before introduction Winchester received a note from Mr. Newton advising that if they did in fact proceed with introduction of this cartridge that he intended to bring legal action against them. Mr. Newton held a great deal of sway back in them days and Winchester heeded his warning. Mr. Newton had, as those of you who know a little about cartridge history know, the 256 Newton which for all intents and purposes was a close facsimile of the 6.5-06. Obviously too close for Winchester to get in a legal pissing contest with Mr. Newton. They went back to the drawing board and next considered a 7mm on this case but for several reasons discarded this idea as well. Two of the reasons being the 7X57 and the 7X64, finding them selves between a rock and a hard place and wanting a smaller bullet for the 06 case they invented the .277 bore and thus the 270 Win.............so as you can see the 270 was actually an "also ran" in Winchesters design wish list.
Just think, if Mr. Newton hadn't already had the 256 Newton, JO'C would have been hunting mountain game with a 6.5-06 and touting it's great effectiveness and all around wonderfulness and we would actually have a cartridge worth owning today.........instead we have the 270.

The 270 may be an "also ran" from a historic standpoint, but there are very few non magnum cartridges out there that will better it. The 6.5/06 and the 280 are both vg good chamberings but to say one is much better than the other is a bit of a stretch.
"Wonderfulness" ........ Is that a real word? Use it much?
it s a story between a 270 win, a pack frame and a grizzly bear but Doug will never admit he used a 270 for hunting lol ...
If I don't look at a gun for awhile, I sell it and buy one I do want or buy ammo, training or use the money to fund a competition I'd like to go to.
If you're truly a shooter and not just a collector and you WANT to shoot well, knowing one gun like the back of your hand, seems more favorable than many guns you're unfamiliar with.
I'm far more impressed by someone showing me the battle scars on their gun..that they earned from practice, than the guy with a new gun every other week.

Well S1, it is possible to have both, and be a hunter, shooter and collector..............My hunting days are winding down a bit, not over by any means, but less physical and less exotic, but I still love shooting and buying and building guns. Eyes are limiting competition levels and if I were going to practice, I'm not sure what. Regardless I still love shooting and hunting and tinkering, as well as cartridge design and testing and building guns for this love. I'll always have too many guns................
CN......I have just read back and I cannot see where I have given one word of advice on anything 270........I have voiced an opinion, but I don't think my opinion could be taken as advice unless it is to shun the 270 at all costs.
SC......."wonderfulness" is truly a word, but I can't say that I give it a lot of use...........
