Can You Put a .45 Kit onto a .22lr 1911 (GSG)

I tried putting my norinco 45 slide on my GSG and it didnt work. Slide fit on but barrel and magazine didnt. Dont know about any other brands.

That's a great question! Some people buy their Sig 226 on the instalment plan - buy the .22, then a caliber conversion to 9 or .40.

So if a company makes 1911s in .45, makes .22 conversion kits for them, AND makes the 1911 in .22, then there's a good chance the frames are all done on the same assembly line, and parts can be swapped (no guarantees).-

On the other hand, there is a huge difference between .22 and .45 (even more so than .22 to 9mm or .40). There will be more stress on the frame (slide would come with the barrel, so would likely be made strong enough).

It might be worth calling the company. It would be a douchey move to build .45 1911s on one production line, then use lesser quality processes and materials to build .22, but something to look into, for sure.

I don't have an answer for you, but like sulisa I am wondering what type of metal the GSG uses for the frame. If they only make .22 guns I would be leery about trying to use a heavier caliber on it.

Even if they fit, im not sure the GSG frame would "absorb" the recoil of the 45.... They are nice .22 pistol but they are made to be 22lr pistol..You better grab a norinco 1911 if you want a cheap 1911...
 
On a GSG 1911,... DO NOT DO THIS !!!!
They can barely stand the recoil of the .22, I have had one I owned crack and had 2 others from other people cross the bench all cracked or failing from only .22 The GSG also has had some special provisions made to the frame for that dedicated upper. They are NOT within normal 1911 specs,...just try and upgrade internals or grip safety and you will know what I'm saying.
These frames are made of Alumi-something blend and I can gaurantee you will fail.
 
The frame is probably a cheaper alloy, and would most likely crack under recoil. Also you would need to replace a few internals, mainspring etc...

No....just no.
There is no ejector of the GSG frame for one thing, it's also series 80, & the frame is cast zamak. If you ####ed around long enough you could probably get it to fire once....
