I was wondering if you could rebarrel a T3 seeing as has no recoil lug??
Would you have to get a different stock to accomodate a new barrel w/ a recoil lug or can you get a barrel exactly the same as the ones on the T3's

Cheers!!

no recoul lug??????????what this?????????

Here's a brief description from one page describing the recoil lug on Tikkas:

The recoil lug, a flat steel plate, fits snugly in a recess in the stock. When the barreled action is bolted into the stock, the recoil lug engages a slot cut in the bottom of the receiver. Manufacture is no doubt simpler and less costly than receivers with integral recoil lugs, or designs with the recoil lug sandwiched between barrel and receiver.

Cheers!!

You don't need a recoil lug. If you re-barrel you may need to open the barrel channel to accommodate the larger dia. barrel. If you think you really want or need and recoil lug, one can be put on when you re-barrel.

ok now i'm on a learning curve...what action comes normaly with an integral recoil lug...

i thought and asumed that all recoil lugs were sandwiched between the barrel. I've never heard of the lug being part of the stock and engaging the action?

With all ive heard and read obout the t3's they sound like great rifles but.............?????

Yes you can rebarrel a T3.
No need for a new stock, you could just get the same or similar contour.
The sako 597 has a integral recoild lug.
The set up on the tikka 595 is very similar but the T3 action is smaller.
The wood stock on my T3 leaves very little room for a larger barrel.
There was very little shoulder on my 595 ....when I trued my action and faced the front I took enough off so there was a larger mating face 1.250 the action has a taper to the face from the "square" of the action.
The factory barrel had a 1.080 shank and the thread dia is close to 1.00 not a large mating shoulder .040
The barrel on there now has a 1.200 shank dia. so has a .100 shoulder
I would suggest having the T3 face trued and a slightly larger shank can be used then the factory barrel.

can you rebarrel a tikka t3

yes you can, I like the features of the T3 such as the 70 degree bolt and smooth action and also clip fed and light weight. So I made myself a long range deer rifle with a 27 inch gailliad barrel in 257 wby mag. Had the work done by Corlane Sports from BC. Shoots excellent
