I recently purchased a Remington 597 VTR and am waiting for my local gun dealer to get in some 30 round magazines. One of the guys at the shop said they were clear.

Does anyone know of a dealer that has them in black and if not, can you recommend a good paint that I could use to paint a clear magazine black?

Thanks,

Dubya

I did my 10/22 mags but I can't remember the brand of paint. I just bought some flat black made for plastic. I also ran a thin strip of tape down the length of the mag to leave a "peek-a-boo" window after the paint job so I could see my round count. A quick scuff with some fine grit sand paper, a good cleaning, and mask what you don't want painted and you're good to go. Also multiple thin coats of paint are better than one thick one that may run.

good luck

I use Krylon Fusion in flat black.
Sprays even and dries quick.
NEVER had a problem

That's pretty clever, truth-be-told...........best of both worlds.......:)

x2 for Krylon, got it from Canadian tire, a little pricey I think 10 a can but works beautifully. its important however that you scuff the thing up with some fine sandpaper

Another one for Krylon.
I've used their camouflage line on my guns and my truck. Great stuff.

It's neat to watch the magazine empty, as you fire, when it's clear though.

I just bought a flat black auto spray bomb. Worked good. Just spray lightly and let dry for 15 min, then re-apply. I think I put 5 or 6 coats on mine. Nice finish.

I wrap the extended mags for 10/22's with black electrical tape. It gives that 'tacticool' look and makes me look like a God! Mwahahaha!

Actually I do it to protect it from damage when it's dropped on rocks, but it takes away the clear problem too. :p
