Looking on line I have read that some say you should not shoot a bullet any larger then 240 grn out of a rifle with a 1:38 rate of twist. My Henry manual provides no ammo restrictions. Can I shoot 300 grn’s?

There should be no danger in doing so. Poor bullet stability would be the issue. The target will let you know

444 marlin shares same bullet as 44 mag, whether velocity makes a difference i do not know. Having said that, most accurate bullet ive seen in my 444 was the 300 grain xtp, 5 shot 100 yards @ .75 inch.

I had a first year .444 marlin in 1:38" twist. I tried 300gr bullets as a friend gave me 100. They wouldnt stabilize. Granted, it had microgroove rifling. I got some gas checked cast 260gr that shot pretty well, but my top accuracy was attained from 240gr or lighter bullets. All my rounds were driven as fast as I could safely load them. Your mileage may vary, especially with standard rifling. Speed may be an issue though.

The Red Hawk is 1-20 and stabilizes a 300gr just fine ....Ken Waters thought so......how heavy a bullet can you fit in a .44 mag case?
