Can you shoot wrinkled boolits?

Lee moulds are all aluminum are they not?
I'd have thought you might get 1 or 2 bullets like that at the start but once the mould was up to temp the problem should have gone away.
In order to have cast that many "boolits" that wrinkely you must have gone very, very slowly or those are all "first drops" from several seperate castings.

Throw em back in the pot and make some good ones.
Better too hot (frostly looking) than too cold.

My mold is an older Lyman made of steel if that makes a difference. I probably did go slow, and I only held the mold over the pot, not dipped in the lead at all.

Single mould (one at a time) right?
Heat things up and you should start seeing sharp bands and the wrinkles will dissappear.
Are you sizing and lubing as well?

Just curious if you have a Lyman mould number for those?
They look sort of like some 45's I used to cast but mine had a flat nose and werent hollow base. My mould was a 457191.
Wheelweight material worked just fine.

Memories...:D

Looks like too cold of a mold.

I just started casting and had the same thing happen

Here is my pic - 700gr .500 S&W :)

Your mold is too cold. I cast for 41 long colt as well. I put mine on the stove at medium temperature the same time I am melting the lead in the pot.

By the time the lead is ready the mold is too hot to cast. So you pore, but you have a little while for the first one to cool enough to solidify. Then the rest can be done as normal.

The problem is the mold is very big relative to the bullet. It would take a long time to get the mold hot enough by just casting alone.

hope this helps

I have experimented a bit with this calibre if you want to message me for loads, how to make brass whatever. I am loading for a 41 long colt in a colt new service revolver.
