Can You slamfire a Ruger 10/22?

Hey CGN quick question, Can you Slamfire a Ruger 10/22?
the reason I'm asking is over the weekend I had some buddies over and we were shooting on my makeshift range and my buddy Aaron brought his 10/22 out.
he was testing a new banana clip that had seem to be miss feeding so my other buddy was shooting it and it jammed and at this point I'm not sure what happened.
He was trying to pull the bolt back to get the jam and the gun went off into the air in a 50 degree angle and I'm not sure if he just let it go or pulled the trigger be he claims it just went off luckily he wasn't facing us or himself but im not convinced this can happen.
so I'm not sure either to beat his ass or just take it as an accident
has anyone ever had this issue?
 
My buddy was over last week and he had his 10/22 and I had my 597 out. we took turns shooting each others rifles. On one of his go rounds with the 10/22 we had an FTF, we let it sit in the gun for about a minute before trying to clear it. in 1000's of rounds out of those guns we have never experienced a slam fire. Im just assuming but I think he probably had his finger on the trigger. Anything is possible though, it may have slam fired but unless someone saw it you'll have to go with what he said happened.
 
If his trigger group is mucked up badly or it's an aftermarket group that is set up very softely it's possible that bumping the mag could have caused the trigger to release. If it jammed it's very possible that he pulled the trigger on the jammed round which also set the hooks to be barely holding and again the bump to the mag was enough.

Just points out how important it is to keep things pointed downrange when there's any ammo in the action. Holding it up like that for mag changes and clearing jams is all too common and totally unnecessary.
 
any blow back semi auto can slam fire if the firing pin is stuck forward in the bolt. That said, I've never seen or heard of it happening with a 10/22 unintentionally. They sure are fun to bump fire with full capacity mags though. ;)
 
I have had a slam-fire with my 10/22. it was near stock at the time. was at the Calgary shooting centre standing on the firing line. had just inserted a fresh ten rounder. I had already completed the auto bolt release mod so I pulled back, let the handle snap forward and strip a live round off the top of the magazine. bolt locked into battery and the second it did so, the gun fired. I think this is a text-book example of a slam-fire. when I retrieved the case I noticed that a large portion of the rim had been pinched oddly in between the barrel shank and the portion of the bolt that rests against the chamber end of the barrel.

The shock of a bolt closing can cause the rigger to slip off the sear if it has been modified; if there is a pile of gunkin the sear notch, if a little bit of brass is on the sear. The end result is about the same and the lesson to be learned is the same.

Judging by the damaged brass, the bolt pinched the rim on closing - a type of slam fire.

That's almost all you can do.
In addition, I say beat his ass for not having the muzzle down, muzzle up is not a safe direction. He knew the gun was loaded and not working properly.
Maybe it was because he shoved a clip into the magwell.

Glad nobody got hurt.
Glad nobody showed up to inspect your 'range'.
