First World War Firearms

Go to Chapters and check out their WW1 & WW2 weapons books if they have any in stock. They might have some general books to start you off.
Learning about Firearms can be expensive if you want to focus on only one type. One good starter book is Small Arms Of the World. Go to Amazon or ABE books to find some older volumes.
The computer is great but you probably can't take it camping or on a trip.
I started with Small Arms of the World and eventually worked my collection to about 3000, but I am interested in all things military.
I just picked up a converted 1905 Ross sporter yesterday.
Its rough and will be up for sale (cheap) as soon as the paperwork arrives.

Books are your best bet for detailed information, however, I suggest Wikipedia at first. the Canadians used the Ross rifle followed by the SMLE and SMLE* in WWI. in WWII it was mostly the No.4 Mk.I's from Longbranch and surprisingly quite a few No.I Mk.III's made out of BSA Shirley and even some out of Lithgow at the end of the war.
