OK, bought one of these knock off forend a while back... built quality is nice but the light sucked (big time)... It reminded me of my hold AA maglight...

So, after a bit of digging on dealextreme... I ordered one of these Cree R2 Drop-In 1-Mode LED Module.

The swap takes a whole 10 secondes... And WOW :eek: is it ever bright! The brightest light I have to compare it to is my Fenix TK10, and it's way brighter :dancingbanana:


Now I just have to take it to the range and see how well it handles recoil :shotgun:

I just ordered one! Thanks for making me spend more money!!! ;) I wonder how hard it is on batteries? Did you get it to the range yet to see how it takes the recoil?

I haven't shot it yet, but one thing I didn't like about it- when I put the Cree drop in light in it works well, but there is a cheesy wide sheet gasket that bunches up in front of the lens when you tighten the head of the flashlight on.And damn is that a REAL upgrade from the sissy bulb the flashlight came with to the Cree module!Worth the $$$ overall!The batteries are damn pricey though.
 
Took my upgraded unit out to the range today, and well, it needs some modification. The light itself is awesome, but the whole flashlight comes loose and moves forward out of the forend with the first shot (#5 pheasant loads) and almost all the way out on shot #2.Also the rubber strip covering the wiring for the presssure swith popped loose after 10- 15 shots. I'm thinking that a thin layer of tape around the light may fix it, but it'll have to be jammed in tight once and not removed again until it's time to change batteries I think.I bought this for a bear gun build, and based on the performance, I'd better damn well make the first on count, cause if the flashligh goes on the blink and I didn't make the first on count, Mr. Bear-in-camp would be chewin' on my @$$ in the dark!!!!



But really, I think it can be saved with silicone for the rubber strip and electrical tape for the light, just not sure I'd bet my whole @$$ or even a bite out of it on it!

That sucks! I did notice my rubber strip covering coming off and put a dab of gorilla glue underneath which fixed the problem. Makes you wonder if these things were tested before they were sold to us!

UPDATE: How do the Surefire forends work? Do they have a similar rubber gasket that pressure fit the light in?

The surefire "flashlight" is two parts, the barrel that extends out and holds 1 battery and the light module. That screws into the forend where the other battery sits (changing batteries is a bit of a pain, you have to put a battery in each section and then screw them back together).
I have a used forend (so used most of the rubber over the pressure switch is gone from wear) but I've never had a problem with it) I've know idea of it's age (it is the older style) or how much use the first owner put it through, but I have several hundred rounds through the gun with the forend attached without a problem.
The pressure pad is not a DYI replacement, but Surefire will replace it for me under warranty (talked to them about it) I don't want to be without it for the couple of weeks it's in the mail.

Thanks! A screw in would be better. Going to have to put some 00 buck and slugs through mine to see if the light stays in.

Forget about the tape!!! There is a little phillips screw on one side of the flashlight forend. Use a screwdriver that is small enough to go inside the hole. I screwed mine about half a centimeter past flush and the light won't pull out now unless you loosen the screw. You had me worried but even slugs and 000 buck don't budge the light.

You weren't kidding. I got my light today and it's blinding! $10 and change including delivery from Hong Kong. I am only using dollar store batteries but I can't imagine it being any brighter with more expensive ones. I am thinking there is no need to get expensive batteries. Just buy a few extra dollar store ones and change them every couple of months. Thanks again! Well worth the money!
