Canada Goose....eatable or not

That's why I stopped hunting them - I couldn't even give the meat away.

And ducks were not much better. That and steel shot, and I sold all my shotguns.
Seemed that ducks tasted better in the 60's when my uncle shot them as I recall.....back when (faT) ducks were plenty and geese were few...as least in the parts of AB I hunted...

There are all kinds of myths about eating wild game, in Canada I find most of them are about how nasty it is, stuff based on food phobias about unfamiliar items. One time I gave a boss of mine a brace of very hard come by local ruffed grouse for him and his wife, mostly as a demonstration of how tasty they are, like the ultimate free range chicken. I gave him some pretty detailed instructions about how to cook them too, but he went home and called up someone who'd eaten heavily spruce flavoured arctic ptarmigan one time and of course listened to THAT guy so he took the beautiful white meat birds I gave him and soaked then in salt brine with vinegar and other nasty stuff, in other words he destroyed them before eating. He then complained to me about how they tasted like nothing. Never handed out game I killed to anyone ever again.

Really? An avid bird hunter had that to say? I wouldn't agree with them. I've never had any issues with geese. I find that duck and geese are like very juicy steak.

I recently had a conversation with an avid bird hunter who said he and his friends never shoot Canada geese as their meat is 'undesirable".

He was putting this forward as a known fact. I realized that I have never had Canada goose meat, but have always assumed that they are desirable game. I would appreciate your thoughts
Out too lunch!! They are great eating.. although it should be mentioned, and it goes for ducks also.. if you shoot them by the coast they taste like fish... Grain fed farmers field is the place to get them

They are what they eat....
I know I have eaten one or two over time that might not have made an Iron Chef Special, but it still fed me and fellow hunters.
Check this guy out and his affection for carp in the LA River....make what you want from the game you chase.
Even if it is a 10 year old thread.
