Canada in the Rough-what happened?

The only decent shows I have seen were a moose hunt in the NWT and the Indian guide called a good bul moose up to ideal bow range. The bull passed behind some willows at 30 yards and it was the perfect moment to draw the bow, but Pigeon waited until the damn moose was in the open looking right at him to draw his bow... Doh!!

The other show that was okay was a varmint hunting show.

But that's it.

I do hope they continue the show and maybe in time the quality will improve.

The episode that I enjoyed the best was the one where they were hunting ducks/geese in Saskatchewan.
They had a young lady of 15 out taking afew geese.
Anyway I really liked her fathers view on hunting and some other things he had to say about hunters being the endangered species.
One of the best ones for me anyway.
 
I like the show and catch it when I can. This am was a deer hunting at Qubec lodge. Then afterwards I watched a "Newfondland Sportsman" show that was pretty bad. A couple of guys riding around on Quads and calling to any moose they saw. I don't think it showed them walk more than 25 yards from their machines and most of the time they were talking and calling and such. (kind of like "the dime store moose hunters" you might say)

Not the way I hunt moose. And not very enlightening or entertaining.

Thomas Pigeon represents everything that makes people dis-like "city hunters" I can't recall ever watching another "hunting" show where the host consitantly makes bad shots. Have you seen the "bison" episode where it took him 3 shots from a 338 to "slow" down that poor animal? AT 50 yards there should be no "walking" away. Or the moose episode when he starts shooting the moose when it is "shoulder" deep in the lake? Maybe I am "whacked" but when I "hunt" it doesn't resemble anything that he does. But I have never seen the need to use a G/O in Canada for any species.
 
azimuth I will defend the G/O (Guide-Outfitter) thing because it's obvious that you need to be able to do that to get enough shows to produce a TV program. If all they did was film in their home province (Ontario?), they'd run out of stuff in a hurry!

However, I again refer to the moose hunting episode, where Pigeon makes the amateur mistake of drawing his bow with a bull moose looking right at him, when he had the perfect opportunity to draw his bow, when the moose was behind cover.
I think maybe they could use some more savvy hunters and Pigeon could stay in the background.

The show does have excellent production qualities. As a Canadian hunting show, I want to see it succeed!
 
I gotta say I like the show. Every once in a while I see something I disagree with, but all in all it's nice to see a Canadian show representing Canadian huniting.

I PVR the Sunday shows from 3 different Global channels across Canada (thanks to Rogers for their timeshifting package). This way, I'm sure to get at least one episode. I've noticed that Global repeats the Sunday show the following Saturday, so if you missed today's show, try again next Saturday. If you don't have a PVR, stop the clock from flashing on your VCR and tape the show :D

Today's show was a deer hunt in Quebec. Montebello Quebec to be more precise. Not the Hotel, but the private lands known as Kanuk. I was watching the recording with my usual half closed Sunday morning eyeballs when I heard "Kanuk". I've been there!!!! I know the area!! Wow, Thomas finally picked a place I can relate to.

I'd love to go to the places he's been. Maybe not hunt the way he hunts, but certainly hunt my way in those places. Even just to travel the country the way he does. All I see are the insides of Airports, Hotels,and conference centers!:(

I also occasionally watch Adventures in Quebec. It's a 30 minute long commercial for their hunting videos, but there are some good hunts on the show.

If I knew of any others that I could see on cable, I'd happily watch them too.
