This should probably be in the gunsmithing section, but am hoping for a little more exposure and comments here.

First off bare with me here, I am not an artist and cant really draw so you'll have to forgive the crude mspaint pictures.

I have come across a couple Auto-Ordnance pit-Bull Slides, and while at that time AO was not known for their high quality control, these are in decent shape. I would like to put them back into service in one form or another and since I stupidly lost out on the whole 12.6 class (My own Fault) I can't use them with the 3.5" barrels they originally came with.

I am tossing around the idea for a carry comp style build similar to this one:

Making it with a total over all length of a Commander with 4.25" Barrel all the way to the end of the Comp/weight.

Second Idea is to get a couple barrels made up following the lines of the Officer's model Barrel, but extended past the slide for a total length of 4.25"

any thoughts/suggestions ? and feel free to tell me if you think I am out to lunch, I can take it :)

Aren't comps not taken into consideration when measuring barrel length?

Personally, I prefer the look of an extended barrel over a comped barrel:

If you're going to go with a commander length barrel anyway, why not just do a CCO (officer frame, commander slide/barrel)?

You try finding an Officers Frame in Canada :) and the point is to get these slides up and running, here is a picture of one of them to give you an idea

Adding a comp will not change the legal length of the barrel,
but nice drawing anywhy.
You will have to find a longer barrel.

Comps do NOT count as length of barrel. That being said, I think SIG makes one model of their 1911's with an Officer size frame and Commander slide, check with mark at Questar, he sells them.

I realize that the comp does not count for bbl length, and there are officer model frame/commander upper guns out there, Kodiak Outpost has a S&W.

The whole idea for the carry comp, is to have a ported slide and bbl assembly the same length as a commander,

The drawing is crude, but the idea is to have a bbl made that is coned like an officers bbl, then extended and threaded an additional 3/4", which makes it legal, a full profile comp is then threaded on and the barrel ported through the threaded portion.

Its a shame really, because I think a 1911 frame, with a officers model top end on it is an ideal carry piece, this is just away to be able to use these slides instead of relegating them to the junk pile :)

If you used a cone barrel in Commander length it might work, maybe talk to Barry at Bits of Pieces, or Jo Dlask? You could port through the barrel, but a straight 'add on' comp isn't going to fly with the CFC

A comp. counts as part of the barrel length if it is machined into the barrel. The rifling doesn't have to extend to the muzzle. Think one piece barrel with integral comp.
Here is what I would try: start with a standard barrel, cut to legal length. Thread the muzzle. Screw a sleeve onto the barrel extending back and creating the cone. Machine ports into the assembled barrel.

I agree. Their raison d'etre is to say NO. Why cone it? Get a shorter version of the standard barrel - you have the bushing.

You can't really do that with an officer's model, the bushing is a larger diameter, if it wasn't it would slam into the barrels lugs when it cycles.
This is why it uses the barrel it has, and many manufacturers of short 1911's have stopped using the bushing altogether and gone with a straight Bull Barrel

Kinda what I was thinking, I'm going to start by Grabbing a cheap commander barrel, and a conversion cone from EGW, that will get it functional for testing, I can then decide on how to deal with the comp/weight

Hello,

I believe that King's part number K801 is an officers barrel kit that sticks out the front per the second sketch at the beginning of this thread. If memory serves this meets or exceeds our minimum length requirements... ...they should also carry a version for ramped frames.

Kings is no longer in the parts business, and most of the online vendors who showed it have had no stock for a couple years. I never could get an answer as to its total overall length.

I have a Friend looking for one for me whenever he hits one of the gunshows in the states though so you never know.

If you have an older brownells catalogue, they usually have an accurate description. Believe that it was 4.25 inches.

What you are looking for is a EFK Firedragon Compensated Officers barrel.

It is a one piece 4.25", Compensated National Match grade in stainless steel. Perfect to bring in a prohib to restricted status. Hope that helps your search.

Thanks for that, but it looks like they no longer make that model, even their commander ported barrel will soon be no more.

I have been in contact with storm lake, they may be able to make one, still waiting on a cost, and I still need to contact Barry at Bits of Pieces
