It would be easier to build and they don't have to see it as I understand it. They wouldn't like it but I don't think it is against the law.
thats all fine and dandy ,until they search your house, seize all your firearms , keep them at the lab for 2 years , then send you to court for another year or two .
by then your family and friends think your a nut. then if your very lucky you get your stuff back beat to ####. missing mags , and parts.
then they say .thats how they seized them, and you have to suck it up, or take them to court again.
O , I forgot to mention how the $40,000 lawyer bill is going to screw you over worse than the police did.

This scenario could happen with the sks, cz858, Suomi, etc. obviously people have done it legally and I would like to hear from them. I didn't say I was going to do it, but if I was I would try and get the blessing from someone higher up, and find all necessary proof, which I'm sure someone has got stashed away and haven't seen this thread yet. Nothing worthwhile is easy...

I'll agree with that , all I'm saying is be careful the roads are slippery. and you better make sure no original sten parts work in it ,and it fires only from a closed bolt.

from what I understand the open bolt semi autos are completely welded up no access to the trigger/sear bolts are not easy to take out ect it seems it would be easier to go with a close bolt like the they do in the US

One set up as described was ruled to be prohibited. It was semi auto, and was welded so that the mechanism was sealed, could not be altered, nor could it be disassembled without cutting welds. It still was made to fire a 14 round burst when tested.
If one with a non-restricted length barrel were made, and were ever to attract attention (as if being seen shooting a Sten gun would ever attract attention;)), it would likely be sent off for inspection. If it failed, at best the thing would be seized. At worst, charges would be laid.
Folks are free to make their own decisions. This is skating on thin ice.
