Canada Post Advice

Bought a handgun through the forums from a seller in Calgary. Gun is now registered in my name, and he shipped to me in Victoria BC Saturday February 23 by Canada Post. Sent me tracking number.

Gun has not arrived and Canada Post Tracking Service reads as follows:
2008/02/23 13:34PM Calgary AB Item accepted at Post Office
2008/02/24 07:30AM Calgary AB Item processed at Postal Facility
2008/02/28 09:52AM Mississauga ON Item processed at Postal Facility

There has been no further information since the February 28th Mississauga notation.

Is this normal? I have never bought privately before & don't know if I should be notifying CFC that it has gone astray.

Service was "Regular Parcels" and scheduled delivery date per Can Post was February 29/08.

Any advice welcome.

Don't worry about it.......this is NORMAL. If by the end of the week it has not arrived you should be concerned. What level of service did he send it?
 
I had a package go from Surrey-Richmond-Montreal-Ottawa-Montreal-Richmon-Surrey-Richmond-Montreal-Ottawa then delivered. Just hang tight and it will come... Probably VERY late, but it will come.
 
That doesn't sound normal to me...no reason it should have gone to Missisauga. However, I agree with ponts - wait a few days and see what happens. Sometimes the website is accurate and sometimes it is not updated at all for a given shipment. :rolleyes:

Contact the seller and confirm that he sent the package to your address...the Missisauga thing makes me wonder.
 
The problem with Canada post is they don't use real-time updates like UPS so you don't know where your package is or who has touched it. I have a claim in with them right now due to a lost package, we'll see what happens. I used to love UPS because of their real-time tracking until they destroyed a package I sent to myself from America because they were unable to deliver it. Literally destroyed it, I assume they either threw it in the garbage or incinerate it.
 
Looks like your package got misdirected. No reason for it to to Ontario unless the address was wrong (contact the seller). Get a double check on the tracking # (could be a different package's #), The previous owner hopefully only made an error with your tracking #. Have him fax you a copy of the shipping document, then contact Canada Post via phone right away for a search, tell the supervisor it is a firearm. All packages are tracked and scanned by everyone who handles it. Hopefully the seller secured the handgun with a lock before mailing. If nothing comes up I think it wise to inform the CFC.

Sorry dude don't agree. WAY to early to sound the ALARM bells!!! I see you have a zero trader rating how much experience do you have buying/selling firearms and shipping C-post?? There is ZERO reason to notify anyone at Cpost that it is a firearm nor to do a trace. I have a had pkgs show that they are in Ontario and show up at my door in Alberta at the same time. I'm sure you are a decent guy and this is no personal attack but you are giving very bad advice suggesting that he phones and pushes the fact that it is a firearm to CP supervisor at this point.

I would be pissed as the seller if a buyer did not give a reasonable time frame for the pkg to arrive. This could potentially cause grief for both parties.

Exercise some patience and good judgment......if by the end of the week no sign or update online.....well that is a different story

I recently just called Can Post for a missing Future Shop shipment and they said I had to get the shipper to initate a trace for the package. Their site is horrible for updates but you should have gotten it by now and I don't see the logic in the routing to Mississauga. You can give them a call to confirm the the trace policy, but I would get your shipper on the trace ASAP! Good luck.

Canada Post will not initiate a trace or any kind of claim until 15 business days have elapsed from the date of mailing.

Sit and wait until that time period has gone by.
 
Don't worry, yet! It reminds me of my last experience. I bought a hangun case on ebay from the US. The shipper printed the label but there wasn't enough space for the full description so it read: ARS Large stainless steel handgun. Imagine!!!!!!!!!

WTF, how can you do something so stupid. My package has been in Canada Customs for a month. :mad:

I have no intention of contacting anybody. If it does not arrive, I will have the Seller undertake the trace at his end. As long as the Canada Post tracking engine does not advise me that the package has been delivered, I am operating under the assumption that the next knock at my door will be the package. If I get notified it has been delivered, then I'll start notifying everybody that it is missing.
 
I had a restricted firearm shipped Priority Courier by Canada Post as per regulations. Supposed to have been overnight delivery. They lost the package. After 3 days, I attended Canada Post and advised them what was in the package. Clerk was very helpful. She spent 30 minutes and found it sitting in back room. So much for my faith in 'Priority Courier' which is supposed to be the only way to ship firearms......

It's also funny how they don't go back more to track who handled the package to find out where it went missing. They are quick to say "oh well" and refund your money.

Couldn't agree with you more, If a seller sells something and charges shipping good buisness ethics are sellers responsibility to do the tracking. Tracking numbers provided are your way to feel good that package has been shipped.

I was a new member with zero trading at one time also, but do heed sound advice given by some of a reasonable shipping time.Canada post can make mistakes just like anybody else, as long as seller did things right by way of ATT their is no need to mention a handgun, Canada post charges by class of shipping/distance/ weight not commodity.

It only muddies the waters by mentioning a late shipment concerning a handgun in this day and age.

+1 - Re: M77 If someone listens to your well meaning but uninformed advice you could cause unecessary grief for all of us. When you have actually gone through this process a few times feel free to speak up but now is the time for you to sit back and listen.
 
Does Ontario have some mass sortation plant? I once sent a package to the US that went from BC and got stuck in ON for a few days before going to California.

Mississauga, but I believe it's mostly for packages coming IN and OUT of the country (Customs) and packages that would normally need to go thru there on it's way to destination.
