I have to vent a little so here's my beef! I went to the post office today to pick up a rifle I recently traded for and this is what I received less then satisfactory in my books I'm just happy there was no damage done to the rifle or the muzzle. The shipper did his part and packaged it well i'm thinking it would have to have been one hell of a blow for the bbl to come through the foam, cardboard and duck tape.

Have you ever watched the opening scene for Ace Ventura: Pet Detective? I think they hire quite a few idiots like that to be honest.

What I hate most, they won't let you inspect the package until after you sign for it, which then states you have received the package in good order. Grrrrr

Yep, I had a rifle come from tradeEx a few years ago like that. Anybody who buys from TradeEx knows how well they double box their rifles. Somehow it was dropped so hard that the muzzle went through both boxes AND the tape!

None of this would surprise you if you have ever seem what happens in the "back room" of any carrier :-(

There are also closet antis in the employee of carriers too. This also includes baggage handlers.

I know that the postal outlet where I have to pick up my parcels either snoop or note the senders addresses for firearms related shipments.
They had the gall to ask me what's in the Package, as if it's their business. And when I said that it's ham radio hf antenna, they're trying to argue that it is firearms in the box. So I asked how'd they know and if they opened my Package. Only then did they stopped with the thousand questions.

I always ask to inspect before signing. If they refuse my inspections, I whip out my video on my cell phone.

I guess I'm an exception because for several years I have anywhere from 6 to 12 firearms a year from Eastern gun shops and have never had an issue, all have arrived in good shape packages intact so I cannot complain about Canada Post.
As a matter of fact, quite the opposite.... a few years ago I bought a beautiful W&S 12 ga. dbl. from a gun shop on the Island.
I was given assurances that it would be well packed, instead the shop wrapped it in newspaper, felt markered my address and sent it off.
A couple days later Abbotsford Post Office called to ask if I were expecting a shotgun and said they received a shotgun with only a postal code left on it. Needless to say the newspaper wrapping came apart and only the postal code was visible, no name, no address. and yet they tracked me down and re-packaged the shotgun.
I couldn't have been happier, best of all the gun came through without a ding or scratch....

I think someone at CP took note that I receive guns in the mail as most of my parcels are never delivered to me anymore... they don't even attempt delivery... just put the notice at my door. It's pissing me off. I paid for delivery to my home, not delivery 5 miles away from me. I should be getting my postage back and my gas

My experience with Canada Post has been always been very good and I find them to be a lot better than many other organizations I have dealt with. I live in a rural area (no local mail delivery - 38km to town) and have always found the staff very helpful. One suggestion I had from the staff at the local post office was to get a Venture One card which costs nothing to get and can be applied for online. You can then get expedited mail delivery which is a day faster and also cheaper shipping and insurance which helps if you end up selling stuff on CGN!

At CP, 'FRAGILE' means "throw underhand". But seriously, never had a problem, but they are nosey. They keep asking, "there's no ammunition in the package is there? We can't ship ammunition".

My local PO depot has always been just great, very professional and friendly/personable.
Went to pick-up the most recent rifle (a Norwegian Krag, eat yer hearts out laddies) .... new clerk behind counter, this dude ... with a two foot ponytail, he exhorts, "I'd be guessing thats a rifle?". "Nope", says I "overhead compensated #3 weight carbon shaft hybrid launcher with calibrated shoulder thingee that sticks up".

Guffah's from all present, 'n no black helicopters have shown up yet.

My recent experience was the direct opposite of this. A rifle was shipped to me in Eastern Ontario from the Vancouver area. The postal worker who processed it put "V" instead of "K" as the first letter in the postal code on their barcode sticker. It went to Montreal and was rejected. It went back to B.C. It made four round trips to Montreal before it could be manually intercepted and delivered to me. 17,500 miles and 27 days in transit with C.P. and it arrived in perfect condition.

My local PO is awesome, haven't had mail delivered in 7 business days straight, out of the last 40 business days I have only received mail 4 times. When I go directly to the PO they tell me they can't give me my mail because no one has sorted it blast time my wife went there to get mail the door was locked at 3 PM with a note saying "computers are down, closed until further notice.

Thank god we pay bills online, several we have received 2 weeks past the due date, I am starting to hate CP.

I used to do some shipping for a company (mostly electronics) and experience has showed me that you need way more packing material than you think, especially if the item is heavy. Packaging has to be able to support a 1 metre drop, repeatedly with the box in any direction.

A ten pound boxed rifle being dropped on it's muzzle from 1 metre would be very difficult to arrest, unless the whole of the rifle is properly held inside the box (distributing the impact to the whole of the rifle instead of just the muzzle).

Was there any damage? Keep all your packaging and contact the post office, but there`s a good chance they'll deny the claim based on insufficient packaging.

i had a rifle show up with 2" of barrel sticking out. everyone knew it was a rifle anyway because LeBaron just sent it in the Winchester box with no wrapping. morons
