Canada Post shippers BEWARE!!!!!

I agree. Looks like there was enough play inside the box for the firearm to gain momentum and punch through.

There is way more to the story than is being told.
Silver Duct Tape over lapping no-less...
I recall seeing the guys at West Wood Race track using duct tape to hold major body pieces on their cars as they raced around the track.
What really happened to this parcel I do not know I was not there, but there is something wrong here.
My last pkg arrived according to tracking and two hours later my door buzzer rang..."Canada Post we have a package for you Sir".
For those of us in BC, get out and Vote do not support the apathy that is rampant here in BC.
Tight Groups,
Rob

Have you ever watched the opening scene for Ace Ventura: Pet Detective? I think they hire quite a few idiots like that to be honest.

What I hate most, they won't let you inspect the package until after you sign for it, which then states you have received the package in good order. Grrrrr

A place I worked at in my younger years had a policy - everything, and I mean everything, that any employee signed for had "subject to inspection" written along with the signature. Not sure how much legal weight that has, but it's better than nothing I guess.

That's not so bad really. One time I had ordered a rifle, and the wife and I were up town. We drove home to find the pristine package, standing against the front door. Anybody could have rolled up and just took it...

I have to vent a little so here's my beef! I went to the post office today to pick up a rifle I recently traded for and this is what I received less then satisfactory in my books I'm just happy there was no damage done to the rifle or the muzzle. The shipper did his part and packaged it well i'm thinking it would have to have been one hell of a blow for the bbl to come through the foam, cardboard and duck tape.

Actually I think it was poorly packed. If the metal is allowed any movement within the box it doesn't take much for it to punch a hole in cardboard. Bare muzzle can exert a lot of psi with 8 or more pounds of inertia driving it.

My local CP people are great. They know what I ship and receive and have no concerns what ever. In fact I will be doing some gun work for one of them today.

You must not live in an area with NDP support like I do...

I agree that it was poorly packed. The firearm should be braced so it won't move. I always pack like crazy when I ship a firearm. Industrial tape around all corners (or around entire package) is needed for heavy items. No problems ever.

Yep, I had a rifle come from tradeEx a few years ago like that. Anybody who buys from TradeEx knows how well they double box their rifles. Somehow it was dropped so hard that the muzzle went through both boxes AND the tape!
Same with us on our first rifle delivery from Tradex as well awhile back.About 3 or 4 inches of muzzle was sticking out through the end of the box.The box had been thrown, dropped or ?? so hard that it punched through a double thickness of heavy duty bubble wrap plus both the inner and outer box, shows how much punishment some of these parcels have to endure under the "care" of some of the postal workers. Now,in all fairness most of my parcels of anything arrive OK but some of them have had an interesting journey,no doubt about that.

I've shipped and received quite a few rifles through CP.

Never had an issue.

We have community mailboxes, a notification arrives, and I pick up the package at the post office.

Personally, I'd much rather have the rifle waiting for me at the post office than travelling around for the better part of the day in the back of the mail-lady's jetta.

The only issue I do have with CP is their disbelief that I receive emails notifying me of the arrival of my package. I buy stuff from Cabela's and Whole Sale Sports, and one of them automatically sign the purchaser up for email tracking of their parcels.

On more than a few occasions I received email notifications (from CP) that my parcel was at the post office, dropped in only to be told that Canada Post doesn't send emails! This is from two different post-masters!

I show them the email on my cell phone, and they still don't get it.

You should see what CPC hires, both in the workers and management. Some of them are truly human garbage. Nothing but leeches on society. IMHO

No doubt, there is the odd slack-jawed drooling mouth breather tossing boxes to and fro out back, but all the CPC staff that I've had dealings with, have been freindly good-guy regular Canadian folks.

Hell, some of 'em can even remember my first name, be damed if I can recall theirs!, LoL.

I bought an M305 off the EE and you can imagine what was waving at me from the bottom of the box. The barrel. Stock box, thoroughly oil soaked, and nothing but the Styrofoam box liner to protect the rifle. By the time I got it, the only Styrofoam left in the box was the little pieces that filled the barrel, action and magazine. It was a PITA to clean it all out. The ridiculous amount of oil and grease in the rifle had started to melt the bits of Styrofoam and made it much worse to clean that it should have been. Poor packaging at it's best. Duct tape is not a satisfactory barrier for an 8lb+ rifle with an impact point the size of a muzzle. If you think it is, try putting a layer or 2 over a piece of cardboard and tape it to the end of the barrel. Drop it from 3 feet onto the ground and see what you get. If it's cement, you will have a nice round hole punched in it. Do it on your lawn and you will have a nice tomato stake sticking out of your lawn with a cardboard and duct tape "skirt." In fact, UPS will not even accept a parcel taped with duct tape. Just because it will hold a fiberglass fender on a race car doesn't mean it will withstand concentrated impact. I had a rifle shipped to me with a piece of wood paneling inside the box to prevent it from punching through. It almost made it through the paneling and the box as well.

Bottom line, if a seller is willing to ship, they must not cheap out on the packaging. Do it right or not at all.

Obviously , you failed to see my humor or lack there of in regards to the racing Datsun 510's I eluded too.
From the pictures provided by the OP, the only damage I could see was the very nice hole where it is alleged the barrel poked through.
No where was there any other crush damage where one suggests it fell from a height of three feet or more causing the laws of physics
to come into play.

I do concur though with your closing statement , but being a Slack Jawed, Low Brow Union Thug what could one expect from me?
BTW mods. the Union Thug comment is poking fun at myself and myself only...not ment to offend my Brothers and Sisters .

This thread reminds me of the reports a while back of a dealer here shipping SKS's in the mail in plastic garbage bags, lol I can't imagine what I would say if someone pulled that on me.

Cardboard
Bubble wrap
Plastic packing tape
Craft paper
Duct tape
String
Also use layers of cardboard to pad hard point areas and pokey bitz
A Sharpie with addy marked clearly.

If in doubt a hard plastic rifle case zap strapped and wrapped is damn good insurance.

Was there insurance on the package? If not it was probably done on purpose by Canada post. Another scam by the government, you're already paying for the service and their attitude is " if you pay a little more, we will make sure it gets there in one piece. Another government joke on us.

Although I could be wrong here, but find me ONE case where Canada Post paid out more than the baseline $100, regardless of the insured amount. I'm not doubting it fully quite yet, but I think it may be hard to find.
*I have never researched it either. I'm going off info from my boss who had several $3000+ ocean kayaks damaged by CP beyond repair, all fully insured, and got paid exactly $100/kayak. She's still waiting full payment 5 years later. LOL. So...about that Canada Post insurance!?
