Hi folks,

I picked up a couple boxes of old Canadian Industries Limited produced shotgun shells sold under the brand name "ACE". The shells look just like "Canuck" plastic shells loaded by CIL. I was wondering what store these may have been produced for as I assume they are a private brand item much like the "Mastercraft" shells that used to be sold at Canadian Tire. Shells are plastic with heat sealed crimp, paper basewad and two piece plastic wad. I assume they are from the 1960's or 1970's. Any info would be appreciated.

CIL made several brands before IVI got 'em. ACE was one of 'em, but not sold by one chain, as I recall. Think I bought 'em in Crappy Tire. Might have been a gun shop.
Mastercraft makes nothing and never did. It's just a Crappy Tire brand name.

I remember picking up those shells at our local MacLeods store back in the day. They were cheap ( about $5.00 a box) and paired with the old single shot "Hiawatha" shotgun, brought home a lot of Ruffies.

ya - like others said, they weren't affiliated with a particular chain... just sold anywhere that carried hunting supplies. I bought & used lots of them back in NB in the early 1980's. Also, 'Apollo' brand was similar. Not sure those were made by CIL/IVI

Mastercraft makes or made ammo??? Serious question
Canadian Tire stores used to sell shotgun shells under the Mastercraft name, I assume they were made for them by one of the larger ammo makers. I remember still being able to buy it into the mid 90's, I think the last time I bought any it was $3.99 a box.

Believe it or not but at one time Sears sold guns and ammo.
"Ace" was sold by at least Sears.
My buddy bought the last several cases the St. Laurant blvd Ottawa Sears had when they stopped selling guns and ammo back in early 80's.
He still has about a case left.
Killed a lot of ducks when lead was still legal.

I believe they were ClL like the ACE shells.
They were decent shells and great price $3.99 for a box of 20.
