Our new info site is currently in BETA.

www.CanadaShoots.com

It is a basic site to be a clearing house for events and places to shoot. It maps the locations via a Google API.

Please have a look and let me know what you think. Your comments will help us improve it.

Please go ahead an enter your clubs and events.

Got my registration in and confirmation email arrived. When I had originally pressed the "Baaang!" button, it came back and asked me to fill in all fields. When I did and pressed it again, it said I was already registered. You need to bounce folks off that page once registration is successful. Perhaps back to the main page. BTW, my username did properly appear in the top right corner.

Tried to add my two gun clubs. First one was "Port Coquitlam & District Hunting & Fishing Club", pressed "Baaang!", nothing happened. Next, "Vancouver Gun Club" and nothing happened. Only form field I didn't fill out was Map Coordinates. Finally figured that one out. Clicked location on map, then filled out remaining form and it appeared to have worked. However, I got the message "Your location has been no successfuly add.", so that should be corrected. (e.g. “Your location has now been successfully added.”)

The detail page headings on locations should probably be "Where: What: Phone: etc", instead of "Where: That: Phone: etc"

The "Squamish Valley Rod & Gun Club" may be mis-categorized as "Outdoor" instead of Club as it probably should be.

As I see it, you are giving up too much vertical real estate on some pages. I run at 1400×1024 on a 19" monitor and I couldn't see the error messages at the top of the form when I was making mistakes at the bottom. As all monitors are wider than they are tall (and all the more so since the introduction of 'widescreen') the use of vertical space is critical to get your information and message on the visible page.

With all that said, I like the beta. I see this as a resource I'll be using in the future. Good luck, I hope this has been helpful.

Very cool, CanAm. I added and event and it went pretty well.

Do you mind if I post and sticky a link to CanadaShoots in the the Events forum?

Too much information! I didn't need to know that!

Your comments will help us improve it.

IMHO, there is altogether too much personal information available from a user's profile to any other user that clicks on his username from a page (e.g. author of a event or location).

The full name of the user is completely unnecessary, usernames (e.g. ‘handles’) more than suffice. The full postal code is not necessary (option: write the first half of the postal code suffixed with ×'s as in V3M ×××).

If I wish someone to know that info, they can email me and I have the option to write back and give it to them. If I wanted my full name out there for anyone to see, I would have used it as my 'handle'.

BTW, when I edited out some of my personal info, I received the message: "Your profile are success edit." Probably want to double-check the grammar on that one.

Please remember that this is the internet, and a certain degree of anonymity is not only prudent, it is NECESSARY.

Comments on usage...
1. if you zoom in to far setting up sites, you lose the ability to mark it.
2. should let people know how to add the map locations when setting up sites (just a bit of instructions please)
3. Some sites are combinations of what you list, perhaps a option of free form what it is?, exibition center, field, pasture... (not sure about this.. just some thoughts..)
4. It's slow.. (expected for now, but has to get faster..)
5. Could it be setup so you can add an event to an existing location easier than doing the map location thing?
6. Some place don't have meaningful postal codes.
7. Succcess \ Error messages are not correct. eg successful edit returns "Your event has been no successfuly edit"..
8. Progress bar when adding events \ locations would be good..
9. Lastly.. That would be Newfoundl "A" nd, not Newfoundl "E" nd

Small tweaks.. GREAT idea! THks!!!
