Canadian 375 barrels

Not only a special course but years of on the job training. For the first couple of years, a beginner will confine himself to no less than 26". After that, 25" then 24" and so on until, when he feels he can handle it, 22"! That's an exciting day; let me tell you! I've been at it long enough, I can cut a 28" blank right in half. A really old guy, like Sorensen, has gotten to the point he can cut off 22" and end up with a six incher. I can but dream. Regards, Bill.

:D :D :D

Awesome...thanks Bill!

I recently heard that Smith barrels have taken a bit of a turn. Apparently rather than just being Ron making barrels there are a couple of other guys in the shop who don't turn out the consistent kind of work that Ron does. Add to that the fact that Ron is still making barrels himself and the recipe is there for problems. I have an RKS barrel on my ATRS 300WM and it's very nice, but in speaking to Rick it seems there have been lower quality barrels have been coming out of the shop. It's unfortunate, and perhaps it will rectify itself as the new guys get better. But I'm no longer rich so I wouldn't gamble on them.

I would take this with a grain of salt, Mr. Rick is not known for his truthfulness. It may or may not be an excuse for him using a part time barrel maker out of Red Deer, who has been under Ron's tutelage. A barrel maker who can deliver fast orders is hard to resist for a big time operation like ATRS.

I've known Rick for about 17 years. I don't doubt his honesty.

I would suggest people stop trashing the honesty or quality standards of individuals and companies unless they have some very hard facts and figures. I think a person should be on very strong ground before they accuse someone of lying or of producing shoddy merchandise

cheers mooncoon

Doesn't seem credible to me. I guess I will have to ask Mr smith when I see him next.
