I just got an email from Jim Thompson that states.....

We regret to announce that, due to lack of entries, the 2008 F Class Open Tournament has been cancelled. The requirement was 40 paid entries by the end of April; as of 8 May, we have 17. We thank all those who did enter and are sorry that you will not now be able to take part in this challenging competition. The entry fees that you paid, along with any fees for accommodation and meals during the period 24-27 August will be refunded.

Jim Thompson
DCRA Programme Chairman

Sorry jkajfes and others that planned on going, but there is still Lodi WI this year eh... and you could always take the money you saved and come shoot the Driller's match at Nokomis SK in Aug :) Keith

I believe this tournament was an important component to be used for F class team selection for the 2009 FCWC. It's too bad 17 initial competitors paying over $100 per day to shoot don't cut it with the DCRA.

I hear ya' Terry.

Now this would cause a big buck in the DCRA... but it would bring the numbers up for both the CFRC and the F Open tournament IMO...
Why not MOVE the CFRC and the F Class Open International to Wpg's St. Chalres range (if we can talk John Chapman into it :) )?
Wpg is centered in this vast land called Canada and Wpg does have more butts than we do in Sask and Alta.... not as many as Connaught but I think Wpg has about 30 firing points, maybe more! Probably no rain either in Wpg vs Ottawa.

I did not enter this year since I only have 3 weeks of holidays from work and they are already spoken for ... camping with family - 1 week, then going to the BC Provs and then Douglas Ridge - 2 weeks - and they are all gone for another year.

The way I looked at it this year, for the money and time it takes to "do" Connaught, I can shoot in the Sask, Alta, BC Provs and Douglas Ridge International match and still have money left in my pocket, no extra time, but money is still there for a new barrel etc. Call me cheap or whatever, but this is how I see it and the logic I used to pick were I'm shooting this year.

You'll never move the CFRC from Connaught, but F class shooting at St Charles in the summer sounds interesting. By the way there is nothing wrong with your logic for picking shooting events for yourself.

actually I think it's about 150 per day... 325 for the match and you gotta belong to the DCRA as in full member so doesn't that add another 100 bucks making it 425/3? Of course if you're already shooting the annual matches then maybe they'd want you to consider that a freebie...
those hidden fees get ya every time!

Canadian Bisley F Class 09 Team...........Cancelled (as far as I know)
DCRA Long Range Challenge 08..............Cancelled
Well I guess USA gets my support this year.
Would like a FULL refund including the 100 dollar full membership fee.

Is the LR Challenge cancelled too ONT0001?

The Long Range Challenge (1st Friday, August, 15th - 1st Saturday, August 16th, 2008) is still on I think....

ONT0001 and John K and others, why not come out to our Aug 23rd-24th F Class Match (aka The Driller's) at Nokomis Sk? We are shoot'n a Palma using DCRA 300M targets at 600 yds and 500yd targets at 800 and 1000 Sunday (2+15). Pretty close to US FC targets. And Sat we are doing 300M at 6 for group and score. It would be great to have ya'. We even turn the wind up a hair for ya' ;)

Terry: I know, they still think Connaught and Ottawa is in Central Canada and that is were the CFRC has to be, but that was in the 1800's IMO. The center of Canada (Central Canada) is Wpg, distance wise. Anything East of Wpg is Eastern Canada and anything West of Wpg is Western Canada. Is my Western Redneck showing yet???? It was pretty sunny here last weekend and I was out at the range both days, working and shoot'n :)

Kodiak99317,
Would you be able to shoot 300, 500 or 600 and 700,800 or 900m at the same time on St. Charles range?

Gord,
Look at all the cancelled dates on the ORA webpage. I'm going shooting in the US too. Grayling is only 20 miles farther than Borden for me, gas is cheaper, beer is cheaper, memberships are cheaper, match fees are cheaper.

The regular DCRA national matches are still on as far as I know. Myself ,I was only interested in the F Class LR 900m Challenge that was to be held after the
regular series of matches in August.
They have F class participation throughout the 10 plus days of regular matches but just tooo much for me.
The LR 900m F Class was a specific match for F er's that I participated in during the 2006 Match. 3 days of 900 meter only.
Now I know I would love to attend some of the matches I've been reading about that are held west of here. The problem I face is probably the same as those west of here have with Connaught. 1. Cost and Time to travel.
Air travel is nuts and driving just too long..
I guess you are right Tom about US matches.
Am looking forward to Lodi just wish I could do the June shoot as well as the fall.

gheeze Tom really it's only 20 clicks difference? Man wouldn't take me a heartbeat to figure that one out! I was checking out their weebsite.

Tom, really, if you look at all of the savings, its almost like they will be paying you to shoot in Michigan. Whens the last time that happened?

Rick,
I am hoping to get my Form 6 in time to go shoot the Indiana Small-bore Match June 7 & 8. 160 shots a day, plus sighters. Irons sight one day and any sights the next. I may have to forgo the "any sight team match" if I have any meat left on my elbows after the second day. They even offer a 50% off certificate for entry at Camp Perry for class winners. You can bet I will be asking for greenshot status as this will be my first ever small-bore match. The 40 shot strings are going to kill me.
I just got 2 bricks of match .22 ammo (1000 rounds) for $275. I am thinking it might be cheaper to shoot full-bore.

So, is this the LR Palma target with the new 5" v-bull? I just read that the FCWC will be shot using the same target. I would assume the scoring at the FCWC will be based on counting the v-bulls separately as X's. It would seem to me that the scoring of V's as 6 is going away everywhere but in Canada. Personally, I couldn't care less. As long as everyone on the line is shooting the same target, I stand an even chance of doing well on the scoreboard.

I don't want to draw attention away from the real issues, but to be frank, I can't afford the expense (or more correctly the TIME) be globe trotting to participating in matches. I could not commit to Connaught because of the costs. The West Coast has a very active F-class group and there are - and have been - some great matches. I will attend and support those.

Not much globe trotting going on here, 2nd time to Europe in my life. I understand the money, time, distance problems. Budgeting is always creeping to the forefront. There is no national shooting body willing to cover distance, time, and money.

However, I think it is time that we (Canada) stepped up to the plate before we are considered a nonentity in a shooting discipline that was developed here.

As it stands there is a plethora of talented shooters in Canada, but I am at a loss on how to bring them together...at this time.
