Canadian $ and used rifles.....WTF?

Okay...so... WTF does a "tanked" cdn $ have to do with selling used guns into the CDN market place? I am seeing guys trying to unload CZ's used for well over double what they paid new! SAN's for more than retail and some alluding to to a low dollar for reasoning. If I paid $600 for my CZ new(which they were) WTF makes it worth ( in their eyes) $1200-$1500 now....lol. Guys....please... explain this nonsense. And don't give me the BS of "what the market will bear" or "supply and demand" either....

Whats the problem?
Save your money or find something else to keep you amused.
It is no different than a 1990's version of a Model 94 in 30-30 and someone asking $800 for it and it is a used on at that.
Some feel they are unobtainium...
But, what ever the market is what it is....
Tight Groups,
Rob

There will always be opportunists...like when gun stores were selling pmags for $50

Its seems to be allot more opportunists in this hobby for some reason... My other hobby was rebuilding OLD K series engines. Guys would go out of their way to give you parts that we hard to find and help you out on the forum.

Everyone complains about the 'gougers'. But how about the 'whiners'.
I think this group is worse than any other gouger.
Cant be happy for anyone, ever. Nothing pleases them... Ever complaining about something.
First it was the rifles will never be unprohibited. Then it was too slow of a process to get them back to their original classifcation. Then its not enough from the CPC. Then its people selling guns for more than they think its worth.
If party A sells his gun for X dollars, and party B buys for said amount, and they are both happy... Who the #### are you to say its not fair? Party A got what they wanted, party B paid what they were willing... And life goes on.

I agree with you on the whole 9 yards. Except in the case of money being exchanged, and specifically for firearms, I think many people are not knowledgeable enough about the product. A rifle, shotgun, or handgun, is a mechanical assembly, made of machined parts. My point is, we pay a lot of money up front for a new product that is not worth that much, in typical cases. If the "used" market also is greedy, then we will always end up paying higher then we "should", new and used markets. Then this spreads throughout the industry. Historical/collector items is a different market, one can always put more or less value on the history of the item. But yeah, if a deal goes down, and both parties are happy, then great, and as you say, it's nobody's business except the buyer and the seller. Just find it uncool when people are trying to take advantage in any way to boost up prices.

You know... after reading how passionate some of you free enterprisers are about gouging the ####e outta each other, I have come to the sad conclusion that I can't beat you.... So I'll join ya.... I am going to list my bro inlaws POS Norinco AR for $1800. Hey don't hate me.... didn't ya all hear the Chinese economy is in the dumper....

WOW u really are butthurt lol

When you can buy a new one for under $600, and a CQ-A for $500, he will be sitting on them for a long time.

I've seen many overpriced, in my opinion, firearms in my life, chum.

Guess what? I passed many over, made offers on far fewer, and took even less home.

Now please stop making an ass of yourself

In my mind, an 858 style rifle from any manufacturer is worth under 800 bucks. If you think they're worth more and find a seller who agrees, go right ahead and buy it. It's all personal and subjective. I don't put any premium on tacti-cool over beaver barf for looks so ymmv. That being said, anyone selling a new 858 wood stock rifle for 800 bucks? No? Then I guess I'm out of the market. Oh well, there's plenty of other cool stuff to pick up.

I never understood these threads, despite the fact that they have been posted on this forum weekly since the earliest days of CGN. Buy whatever you want, at whatever price you want, if you can find someone who will sell it to you at your price. That's all there is folks. If someone is selling something at a price higher than you are willing to pay... move on.

This "online shaming", guilt-trip approach... what is the purpose of that? That will never change anything. If 10,000 years of these threads go by, I don't think it will change the behavior of a single seller of anything. People listing something for twice the sticker price is commonplace. Hell, people have listed stuff for a lot more than that (like 10-20 times what they originally paid for an HK movie gun - UMP, G36, MP7). It has always happened. It will always continue to happen.

I've found tons of great deals on the EE. I've also sold lots of stuff. You have to put in the time and know your stuff... and you have to be able to move on.

ok i buy a car, say honda civic, i pay 24000$ for it
one year passes it is now worth say 19200$ seems fair? thats 20% off sounds fair to me.

ok but now the dollar tanks, that new model civic is now 30000$, holy sh!t!
my car, who is still 1 year old is now worth 24000$, why is that? well 20% of 30000 is 24000$ so still same amount of fair.

The fact that i am selling a one year old car the same amount that i paid for it 1 year ago is absolutely no concern in this calculation.

now say the dollar really tanked really bad, yah, new model civic is now worth 40000$
1 year old civic is worth 32000$, yep
you just made 8000$, yep

the reason why your goods are now worth more IS BECAUSE the dollar tanked! Thats why inflation is super dangerous when the dollar drops, because people buy STUFF in exchange for their saved dollars, because the dollar is worth less, and the more they do this the more the dollar is worth less, and you cascade into a spiral.

The Canadian Dollar has not tanked to the point where used guns are being sold double the price.

If you don't believe in the free market, supply and demand, or what the market will bear, there is really no explanation that will satisfy you.

The free market will correct the prices soon enough as there seems to be more supply than demand.

Once the novelty of having these guns back in service is gone. It only means we get to see ALOT of BTT's "with price reduction" soon lol!

Either you want democracy and free market or you don't. Can't cherry pick.

Yes it is annoying going through all the idiotically priced "FIRM PRICE" ripoffs that spans pages but that's life. Actually all the junk helps hide some of the gems for the lucky one that spends the time to go through all the ads.

OP> I'd be happy to pay you original new price for a Colt Python.
