Canadian Armed Forces looking to retire BHP by 2026

Make the pistol a core skill.

Why? For those who need it, hopefully it already is. For those who don't there are better things to do. It's the same as the whole, "everyone's a soldier [infantry] first" maxim.....do you really want a bunch of pilots playing soldier? That just seems hazardous to me.

No, not really but that group of pilots should probably be able to fire a rifle or pistol proficiently as opposed to say leading a fighting patrol. I think far too often in the CF people fumble their way through outdated rifle quals - watching them do the same with a pistol is frightening.

Pilots do get shot down, you know. It certainly wouldn't hurt them to have some proficiency with the only firearm that they would have on them.

Now the US has chosen this pistol there really is no reason not to tag along. The 320 replaces a very good design. I suspect the 320 could be also considered for the RCMP should someone begin to think their pistol should be replaced.

Sorry Glock you just lost out on largest, most important military pistol contract to be let out for the next 30 years.

Take Care

Bob

I like Glocks, I like they way they handle and shoot.
I like the simplicity of the design especially. Love the lack of any obstructions on the sides of the slide for operation of the pistol. Like the grip angle, love the sights.
However I don't like the striker fired system. Detest it. I like an exposed hammer which I can physically see and manipulate ie D/A or Single action and a positive safety.
That alone makes me not a Glock fan. Much respect for them (especially the great value for price point) but no striker fired pistols for this guy.
That's why I prefer the P226. Which even if the CAF would not go with the 320 (too new and too good) the P226 would be a no brainer for the CAF.
Especially since procurement channels already clearly exists (CANSOF and all MP's have them already)

Yes, they do on occasion. And they are given courses on how best to survive that scenario, none of which involves using firearms. Time would be better spent reviewing evasion training than becoming 'proficient' with the pistol. The one exception to this I can think of are the Tactical Helicopter community who are close to the enemy AND are normally in the process of moving Army guys around, therefore have support close by.

I think a Glock is an exceptional choice. It is incredibly simple and easy to learn, saves weight, and is good enough. Replace "Glock" with any striker fired polymer design for that matter.

Agreed. Anything without a magazine disconnect will be a step in the right direction. I would bet the majority of ND's can be attributed to that marvellous little device.
