I few weeks ago there was an article in several news outlets about the CAFs Hi power pistols. The gist is they are old and need replacement. One thing I found surprising was the article stated that the Army is apparently doing a In-term Pistol Program as a "temporary" measure until an official replacement is selected.

Anyone know anything about this program? It was the first I have heard about it. I would be curious to the expected time lines for delivery. Also to the rumors to what the army might choose.

CANSOF got many in trials. Glocks, sigs, M&P, etc...

I heard that CC was in the progress of actually developing a pistol that correspond to DND list of requirements.
That was because DND wanted something build exclusively and totally in country.

That might have changed... I saw a few things lately pass by on my facebook from people who works closer to where these decisions are made. Could ask around.

Cheers.

They let me play with the Brownings quite often on the base range (I'm an RSO and back-up PWT instructor). The ones on our base are in such bad shape none would be suitable for deployment. I tested one a few weeks back that had been completely serviced and 2 mags in the slide release fell out! At this point even a used Beretta would be better.

Chimo!

The range use guns are the worst! The Item Manager has deliberately confined the heavy wear and tear on a limited number of guns, so the good ones are available for war stocks.

How hard is it to call up glock, sig, hk, and beretta and say how much for 10000 pistols plus x spare magazines and spare parts for delivery by such and such date?

Wasn't there some talk a few years ago about Colt Canada spooling up the tooling for a licensed Sig? Didn't make much sense, but interesting nonetheless.

Design & build pistols for the Canadian Forces? Nooooooo!!!!

There are so many quality pistols that the CF's can buy off the shelf for a good price.
A made in Canada solution is a very bad idea!

A bad idea that gonna cost a lot more than buying something that's already been tested.

As much as I would love to have a Glock issued to me, ffs, we have Sig Sauers in our system, lets just get more !

Didn't realize. That is a pretty neat one.

yeah im building one to canadian standards... i think I'll go with a dark green instead of FDE :)

There was a solicitation for this pistol a few years back. Part of the contract was that the successful bidder had to give the design over to Colt Canada because Colt Canada was going to build the pistol. The firearm industry said a collective fück that. No one bid. So Canada cancelled its solicitation for a new pistol for the military. And here we are.

Interim...does that mean they'll buy the worn out Berettas from the USA??

Hahaha yep. We're getting Australian garbage as an interim solution starting this February for our pathetically overused jets.
Might as well keep it going right.
Or even better get Colt Canada to design some ungodly abortion of a handgun from scratch, have to tweak bugs out of it for 10 years to the tune of 300 million tax dollars before the machinery even gets set of for production.....
Or you know buy 50,000 sig 226 and half a mill in spare parts and good to go for 20 years....
We already have them in the system for SOF and MP's.
We just need to buy more. It's so ridiculous it's painful that they are going to try and reinvent the ####ing wheel on this.
