Canadian Custom Rifle Makers?

As an F-Open shooter that has put a few rounds down range....why do you need a sub 1/2 MOA rifle to hunt?

Let's say 500 to 600 yards is the ethical limits of hunting.....do you really need to hit that 3 inch circle? Unless you're planning on shooting varmints at that distance but I doubt that with your caliber choice.

Do what you want. All the power to you actually. My opinion is to spend your money on a solid stock rifle like a Kimber if your looking for custom and put LOTS of time and money into developing a load for your rifle and range time.

A great shooter with a stock Savage axis will outshoot the average hunter with anything you put in his hands no matter how custom. I've seen it many times.

Well fer me at least, an ethical shot on critters I'm gonna eat has always been within 100 yds or so. Varmint plonking though has been out to around 400 max due to the areas hunted in.

I agree that budget rifles can shoot fine fer anyone that familiarize themselves well with their chosen rifle. I just prefer the Rem 783 platform as it is better suited fer target work.

There is more guarantee throwing money at a custom, than off the shelf rifle. ALL of my custom rifles (hunting not bench rifles) shot 1/4" three shot groups.......now that's a guarantee!!! Equally, it is built they way a person wants it.

1/4" average, 1/4" max or 1/4" once? A quality custom hunting rifle will no doubt shoot, but a consistent 0.25 MOA rifle every time? Not unless it looks like a bench rifle.

Average 1/4". I have many groupings with all custom rifles that shot under 0.200. EM Precision out of Leduc, Alberta will be building me 270 Winchester, 27.5" Jury Custom barrel, straight-tapered fluted (1.150 to .700). My goal: 1/4" average grouping and minimal 3,300 fps with 130 gr. Nosler Accubonds. Can it be done? You betcha!

I had my custom hunting rifle built at ATRS. 300WM, McMillan A5 adjustable stock, ATRS muzzle breaks are great as well for that caliber... you just need ear plugs handy. Another thing to consider with that caliber and wanting a very accurate rifle, and as others above have mentioned above, is how are you going to shoot it and whats your ability with that type of rifle. I use mine for longer distance hunting, so its heavy, stable and works great... I wouldn't bring it for moose or elk in the woods as shooting it standing without sticks is difficult . And 300 WM will kick in a light rifle. ... building a custom rifle is fun and exciting though :)

I have seen this sort of fantacizing for fifty years and, while I have seen some remarkable rifles and shooters, I have not seen this sort of performance, from a hunting rifle, demonstrated when such demonstration was attempted. 1/4 moa average is difficult with ANY rifle.

Challenge accepted. Once I have my custom 270 Win., I'll conduct load development. When it is ready for the range, I'll bring along my custom 240 Wby., another 27" Jury Custom barrel. I'll notify you and you can accompany me at the Lethbridge Gun Club............... I have a little cash kicking around and always wanting to make more for a new custom build.;)

Check out Bergara factory rifles. I own a B14 BMP chassis rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor and a B14 HMR in 308. More and more calibers are now available. The Creed is easily .5 MOA with Hornady factory 140 grain ELDM. The 308 is 5 weeks new to me and .7 MOA so far with 168 ELDM, Hornady Brass, 43.0 IMR 4895, CCI BR2. And clover leafed a 4 shot group at 300 yards Wednesday with once fired necked only Lapua brass. Not to mention I went to an informal training/shooting match this past weekend At CFB Petawawa as a newb with no idea what to expect. The $1450 B14 308 got me 4th my 1st time out against rigs 4-6 times it's cost. For out of the box the Bergaras are no joke and will hit exactly what the f your shooting at. They are no joke. They make me look better than I am lol...

Sounds great. In fact, if you want, you can come to the house. I have a 300m range in the front yard. How many groups do you plan to include in your average? Understand, when I speak of a 1/4 moa average, all shots count, all groups count, and there are no alibis. When you shoot a half-inch group, it takes a lot of sub-1/4 inch groups to get the average back down to 1/4. I have a lot of rifles which have fired 1/4 moa, five-shot, groups but only two of them, both dedicated BR rifles, would I consider to be potential 1/4 moa rifles.

Let me know when, cause I would love to see a hunting rifle that aggs .25moa. I live just up the road a ways.

A bone stock Tikka Tactical in 300 wm, with impeccable handloads, in my experience is a 1/2moa rifle.

Best group (5 shot) at 1000 yards was 4.00".

There are others out there

A scope that holds zero along with afore mentioned handloads and practice at long distances will get you there.

Throwing dollars at it is no guarantee.

get a Tikka bed it, fiddle with the trigger ,good scope, handloads and you get a 200 yards 100 yards group
