So I know people have been wondering, are the grips, hammer, rear sight and work done to the special Shadows worth it. Yes, yes it is. I got to play with my new one yesterday at Reliable Guns, and wow, holy crap, the slide and frame fit is amazing as is the barrel and slide fit. Zero slop but smooth as glass (or insert your choice of really smooth). The trigger has a bit of drag to it, but a few hundred rounds will disappear that I'm sure. The grips are pretty cool and I like the maple leaf. The rear sight was a surprise for me, double FO rear and I liked it. Only thing I'll change when I get it is the trigger to an 85, which is what the new ones will be coming with anyhow. The aluminum baseplates could have been done better, but I'll be using my other mags anyhow. Basically it's a plastic 10 round baseplate with an aluminum cap on the end. Hopefully others will have more to report on their experiences with them. The case the gun and 3 mags come in is a real nice touch as are the spare parts (springs, shock buffers spare guide rod).
It will be a week or so before the gun is actually in my house and I can get it to the range but when I'll be putting it through the 2000 round challenge right off the bat. I don't see it having any problems though.

Where's mine?

It is nice although I have to admit to not liking the rear sight as much as the solid one, it seems to distract my eye a little. The baseplates are not quite what I expected but the gun itself feels great. As Slavex said the frame/slide fit is just awesome. I look forward to seeing what it does!

Shot mine for the first time yesterday. I was super impressed with the smoothness of the gun as well. The trigger was my favorite part, shooting off the reset point was quick any very controllable. Accuracy was dead on and the gun had very little recoil. I did like the sight picture and found the 3 dot red sights really helped with quick target acquisition.
Only bad thing I could say is the gun is a little on the heavy side from what I'm use to but maybe that's not such a bad thing just might take some time to get a feel for it. Which I plan to do now that I have a new favorite pistol.

So the million dollar question....will it be approved for IPSC production? I'm not clear on that one.

Now is the price difference worth it?

I've changed out the hammer spring to the 13lb and "deburred" some internals and I'm 100% happy with mine. I've tried the thin grips, but prefer the regular rubber grips. I'd like to get a backup gun and I've been eyeballing this one, however I'm not sure if it would really be worth it for me considering I'm quite happy with the minor stuff I've done to my regular shadow.

So in your opinion is it really worth it buying the Canadian version? Is it really "more gun" than the regular shadow for someone like me that barely did anything to theirs?

That's what I thought too Canuck44 and NDB, but the finish is beautiful, the metal is machined wonderfully and the slide/frame/barrel fit is just amazing. If you can afford the money to buy one, I'd recommend one. If it's a bit tight for the budget, don't, get a regular one. Functionality while I'm not sure very many people will be able to tell the difference. I am happy that of the 4 Reliable got 3 will be in my classes regularly.

slavex looks to me like a $700 trigger job with a set of grips with a maple leaf on it. Tell me I am wrong.

Hmmm, Rob, did you get one yet? I wanna see the sights and 'feel' the gun.

Tim, get your sponsorship etc - you know you can get ahead, just work on accuracy!!! And you can get a couple of Shadows for free then ;).

Bob, what are you shooting with at IDPA BC Prov.? ;) Who else is coming down from Terrace?

Slavex - the CZ that interests me is the 75 Shadow. The gun retails for around $1,100US so I assume around $1,400 up here. The SP-01 Shadow weighs to much for IDPA while the 75 Shadow without the FLDC is under our present 39oz. limit for SSP. Even then the 75 Shadow isn't much more than an 85 Combat with a competition hammer and the new frame. Sweet gun though.

Cee-Zeer - I plan to run my M&P Pro 9MM at the Provincials. I also will bringing down my Ruger GP-100 for one of my friends from Washington to use. Will see how the PRO and I do at the Washington State match the previous week. Troy H. and John R. are coming down. Troy is going to College down there and I believe John is bringing Troy's guns down for him.

Take Care

It's a Shadow its already approved.

That's what I was oricinally thinking but when I looked a the list they went to trouble of adding the 2012 shadow so I wasn't sure how open the door was to other Shadows.

I want one of these enhanced ones and would buy one tomorrow if I was sure I wouldn't run inot a problem a the nationals. I love my existing Shadow but it's getting a little long in the tooth.

Also approved are variants with original Ceska Zbrojovka (CZUB) barrels which are longer than standard (e.g. SP-01A, SP-01DK, SP-01DK Shadow), provided the barrel length does not exceed 127mm, and provided all other aspects of these variants fully comply with all other Production Division rules. All dual tone models, and approved models with OFM coloured frames, are also approved.

(CZUSA Custom Shop models including the SP-01 Shadow Target, and Frankonia “Mamba” and “Viper” versions, are not approved)
Are you sure this is IPSC approved? The approval list for CZ includes 5 different "Shadows", one of which is explicitly not approved. If this new gun is just a Shadow, why comment on how much better it is than the regular version?

Because it comes from the factory with all the improvements we all do already done. This is the 2012 Shadow, Canada just got grips with the Maple Leaf as an added bit if spice. Feel free to not discuss though.

Great looking gun. Handled one at TSE and it looks great. The mags are meh. The regular Shadow or SP01 are from what I have seen accurate out of the box so it really does look like an expensive trigger job at first glance. Maybe runs like a champ instead of the regular break in period of the gun?

Those grips are sweet. I would buy one if going with PD.

and wow, holy crap, the slide and frame fit is amazing as is the barrel and slide fit. Zero slop but smooth as glass (or insert your choice of really smooth).
So, among the improvements everyone is already doing is tuning the slide/frame and barrel/slide fit?

a lot people polish the frame and barrel and slide, but obviously what the factory can do is significantly greater as they can start with parts that are too tight.

Seems like an expensive trigger job to me also. I would just send my Shadow to Rodger Katanko to get worked on and save a couple hundred bucks. I hear he is amazing with CZ's. As for accuracy due to the frame, slide and barrel fit? I doubt it would be factor in a competitive match were it is all down to the shooter and not the gun.

Trigger jobs aren't really that important either, it's still the shooter. But there is a reason people like tight, well fitted guns in other brands, this is the case here.
