That's a SFW lower. C8 would have AB in the serial number. The first two digits are the year it was made.

He's right, the first one I was issued was 87AB00950. But that was before ANY of these mods came out. I just thought that they would have made enough lowers by now to have moved forward in the alph numeric series. The FTHB will have something to do with the heavy front end mods.

SFW is a Colt Canada marketing term to describe their product. C8 FTHB (flat top heavy barrel) is the CF designation as is marked on the rifle. The CF did not designate a "C8A2."

New C8A3s are being issued with ambi parts, green furniture, and a mix of EOTech HWS or C79A2-1 scopes. Older versions will see a mix of all kinds of furniture (generally black) and some even have unit "acquired" KAC rails.

Not completely accurate. The C8SFW is the a C8FTHB with KAC RAS installed at the factory. I've never seen one personally so I can't verify what markings are on the receiver.

Correct however if you if you buy enough they'll put whatever you want on it, including accessories. The bolt on extras and markings will completely depend on your contract, you get what you buy. My point was only that what Colt names their products on the website and what gets delivered and named by the CF are two different terms. Flys&% and pepper, I know.

When I took my armorer course with Colt Canada they brought a big mix of stuff in different configurations including a very nice prototype of the IUR. I can not remember what was printed on the SFWs now that you mention it. As for the KAC RAS I don't remember seeing one on it but it was a long time ago. We were mainly working on their C8A2 they were trying to sell to police as a patrol rifle at the time.

Bilingual markings? Yes, the markings do translate well in both languages but I do believe they have their origins in the UK, who also mark their rifles S for safe and R for Repetition.
