Canadian Forces Special Run 1911 - NOT PARA

+3. I would likely get one for me and one for my Dad (who is ex-military). We would use them in WildBunch SASS, which would definitely be in fitting with them.

I agree with Tuco Pike. Why would you limit the purchase to only serving military personnel? Vets, like myself, would be proud to own one of these special pistols and I'm sure any other patriotic Canadian (or American) would also like a crack at one of them.

Don't limit a production run to just serving military personnel as the more pistols that are produced, the less the cost.

Don't put the word "Afghanistan" on the pistol. IMHO it's an insult to those who have served there and lived to tell about it and to those who died trying to improve "the human condition" in a s**t hole.

I would love to see a single stack, SS model produced (10 + 1 rounds).

My preference would be a Stainless Steel gun chamberd in .45 ACP with a bushing barrel so it can be used for USPSA Single Stack and IDPA CDP.

I agree with your entire post.

The service number for those who are/were in the service is not a bad idea. For me a relative of a service member, my serial number could be my Dad's service number with a "B" at the end or something, that way our set would sort of match. For those patriotic Canadians that want one but were not in the forces I am sure a significant serial number could be come up with. Since these are custom, perhaps someones birth date?

And for my two cents, Dlask is a great idea in 45ACP, just like a 1911 A1, traditional, in blue or stainless. Set-up for the traditional 7 round mags, but could ship with the 10 round Chip McCormack ones.

I was in from 76-84..my service number was my S.I.N so your Dads S.I.N and a letter maybe ??

I don't know the specifics of the prior programs in which Words Twice was the OPI. I would however like to applaud his initiative and efforts for those programs that he was involved in.
However, I think I can safely say that I share the sentiment of many other current & past CF members who were not interested in the Para programs, for various reasons.
I'm a fan of always trying to move in a direction that's inclusive rather than exclusive to as many people as possible. That said, I think the way to move forward in an inclusive way on this is to come up with options that will recognize current and past members of the CF distincly. If there were enough interest shown, an option for those who have never served to show their appreciation and support for those who have served may be worth pursuing as well.
With the wealth of knowledge on tap here at CGN, some brainstorming should easily produce some great ideas as points to move forward from.
I think for current/past CF members, a way to distinguish their option from that available to the supporting public is through personalization of some degree ie: service number, element, ensignias, etc if possible.
Again, my vote goes to an option with most/all of the attributes of the Dan Wesson V-Bob in 45ACP, either in black or stainless:

My $.02 worth - it's GHEY to restrict it only to active service personnel.

1) The more you sell the cheaper it will be.
2) There are TONS of RCMP/CBSA/DND Civ/CSIS ppl who make serious contributions to the defense of Canada and it's dumb (IMHO) not to make them elligible because of point 1.
3) Some weekend-warrior navy reservist doing shore duty with the GG guard in Ottawa gets to buy one, but a LEO or DND Civ or Defence contractor who actually sails/flies/or has boots on the ground in A-stan is excluded? C'mon. Dumb.

Or in my case, I have a service number from spending under a year at RMC but never served outside a schools setting. I've spent far more time contributing to the CF as a civi, but I qualify on the former but not on the latter? Double-dumb.

Just my $.02 worth - your mileage may vary.

A 9mm version on a 1911 frame would also be of interest to me.

I concur, Military, Current or Honourably retired.

(Membership has it's privledges...and responsibilities. If you weren't entitled to a military discount on something, would you still try and claim it?? Could you stand in front of a guy getting off the plane in Trenton and explain yourself to him?)
Ideas to consider:

1. Service number as S/N

2. Perhaps a maple-leaf on the front-strap of the pistol (harken back to the old Lend-Lease Inglis's?) a bit of history brought forward into modern times.

3. Unit/Command cap-badge engraved on the slide?

4. Maple-leaf engraved on slide?

There can be TOO much "bling" on some of the "commemoratives", so perhaps a more muted statement can be made?

I would prefer a non-painted finish (parkerizing please!) because with use the paint will just chip and peel off.

First off I'm glad you contacted SV. Brandon will take good care of you I'm sure. Secondly, Dlask is a single stack option, whereas SV would get you double stack. Thirdly I'm not or have ever been CF but my opinion is that if the guys organizing this want a Special Edition for current serving, or served within a specific time frame, that's fine. Someone else can organize a group buy for everyone else and name that edition. Guys that are in right now have every right to do this as they see fit. Its the guy organizing it who gets to make the decision. Like people say, membership has its privileges.

Count me in as interested, and agreeing with all of NavyShooter's points. As for suggestions, you're going to get enough without me adding to the confusion at this point. Just keep it simple.
