A friend of mine who served on the Tera Nova in early 70`s 71-73 remembers a indivdual firing from the deck A FN C1 looking weapon (and No it was NOT a C2 ) that had NO bi pod but did have a large letter A carved in the butt stock. WTF was it? an odd ball no doubt. I ever heard of this version in Canadian hands other than the FN C1 8L version that started out as selective fire but the Large letter A carved in stock is different it must have stood for Automatic?

No. the only difference as far as I have been told, is that the C1 was semi, and the C2 was full. The C1's were easily converted to full auto (flipping something called the "change lever"), which was an infantryman's trick as far as I have been told by someone who carried one for many years.

Those were called the C1A1D, and were identified as select fire by the A carved in the stock. Only in use by the Navy.

It was not a soliders trick it was a specific variation of the Canadian FN weapon and as i said.It had a large letter A carved in the stock, carved with a dremel type tool not a jack knife. Armory or manufacturer creation.

Of course you could always take the front end of a C1 and put on the back end of a C2, saw that done a couple times, of course it was blanks and a night patrol, no wait saw it once on a range. of course there was the match stick trick.

Sad thing is that from what i hear that there is less than 500 FN`s left in Canada after the 2005/06 make Canada safer move.

Besides what is in museums or trophies, there are no FNs, C5s or EIS left in Canada. They were all destroyed in summer 2007 due to costs of storage and maintenance. So there are no FNs....all gone...

Like I said less than 500, someone should get a kick in the N@ts.

there a few fn's in gagetown, mostly for training aids. we have one in our lock up. but just one along with a smg. just for training though. you might also find a few c 2's in cfb borden at the weapon school. i shot it there in 96 and in 08.

Full auto fn c1

A good reference book for this modification is the FAL series books by Blake Steven's of Collector Grade Publications. I believe you will find some photos of it in North American FALS and in his masterwork the FN FAL. Good reading.

They couldn't auction them off to movie prop companies, or something a little more productive?
