Hi everyone,

I have come across an old bolt action 22 that I am trying to sell. It is stamped as a Model 171 .22 cal made by Canadian Industries Limited, iron sights. It is in relatively good condition, wood is still nice and little to no corrosion on any of the metal. It will need a good cleaning, and will likely need someone to take the bolt apart as it has a very clunky trigger pull. I haven't fired it but it seems like it should work just fine after someone gives it a little love. It has what appear to be a 5 and 10 shot magazine. Does anyone have any idea what value this rifle may have? I'd appreciate any information you could give me!

Thanks!

The 171 was my first ever gun!
I bought it off my cousin, and it was his first ever gun as well.
Later on, I sold it for $65.
After years went by, and the money was long since spent, I found myself regretting selling it.

Clean it, shoot it, you'll be surprised.

CIL didn't make any guns. They imported guns by other manufacturers and put their stamp on them. I have a CIL 125 that was made by Anschutz, and it's a friggin laser with Mini-Mags.

The 171 looks like it was made by CBC Brazil, takes the same mags as a Remington 521. CBC made a number of different guns on contract for Remington, among others, and put out some decent rifles back in the day.

They were also branded Remington 525 and CBC 121. Watch for cracked stocks and front sight dovetails cut too deep into the rifling to distort it. Generally decent little rifles though.

I had one. Should have never sold it as it shot amazingly. Trigger was very heavy but shot super good even though. as for value depending on condition $125-175

Thanks everyone for your input! I'm sure rifles like these have sentimental value for many people! I know my uncle still has an old rifle he first used as a kid. It does say that is was made in Brazil, strange that an apparent chemical manufacturer was importing and stamping firearms.

I took it apart slightly to clean it as best I could but the action and trigger assembly appear to be held together by a number of pins I didn't particularly want to remove. It made cleaning it very difficult! Plus I do not own a 22 cal cleaning rod. If they generally shoot well then perhaps I will consider keeping it but I know there is likely someone who will take better care of it and use it more than me. Thank you for all the info, there is surprisingly little online.

If anyone is interested in it feel free to PM me, in the meantime I will consider posting it in the Equipment Exchange. I do have pictures I can email if you'd like!
