MAPLE LEAF INTERNATIONAL MUZZLE LOADING ASSOCIATION and the Canadian International Muzzle Loading Team
We are looking for new members to join the association and to compete on the Canadian Team.
We are seeking people who are interested in learning about muzzle loading and who have a competitive spirit. Both history buffs and competitive target shooters are members of the association and have a great time!
Looking beyond the smoke and for those unfamiliar with muzzle loading, precision shooting may not be the first image that comes to mind when thinking of firearms designed in the 18th and 19th century. Make no mistake though; these firearms are capable of remarkable accuracy.

What is precision black powder shooting?
Events are held at 25 m and 50 m for pistol, 50 m for musket, and 50 m and 100 m for rifle. In addition, there are Down The Line (DTL) clay pigeon shooting events. Competitions are held in two classes, one for original firearms and a second for reproduction firearms; 'O' and 'R' respectively.

Canadian International Muzzle Loading Team
The Canadian Team is selected annually through a qualification process. The World Muzzle Loading Championships, held since 1972, is the highest level of target shooting with muzzle loading arms. Firearms used range from Japanese matchlock muskets and flintlock arms of the American Revolution, to percussion rifles and pistols of the Civil War era. In 2014, there were just under 400 competitors, representing over 25 countries.
Coaching and training by certified coaches under the National Coaching Certification Program are available.
Course of fire Thirteen shots are fired, yet only the best ten count. Targets are the same as those used by the ISSF (formerly ISU). Distances vary from 25 m to 100 m, depending on the event and the discipline. Shotgun events are shot at international speed and consist in shooting 25 birds in 45 minutes.

Do I need to dress up?
No. We generally follow ISSF rules. Rifles shooters can even wear their shooting jacket and shooting boots.

Are there matches?
Yes. Typically, these matches occur in Barrie, Ontario. In 2015, matches will be held May, June and July (walk-ins welcome, bring your guns). Contact us if you would like an orientation or need an invitation.
You do not need to be a member of the Association to compete.
When you are ready to join, membership fees are only $25, and can usually be paid after your first match or two.
So I want to try this discipline, what should I buy?

To win events or earn a spot on the Canadian team, your firearms must comply with the rules, but we can worry about that once you’re enjoying the sport.
