Canadian IPSC Classification System

I'm not sure if it's broken...or people just don't understand how it works

I would say at least 25% of the people at the Nats didn't know what an "Alias" was...and just made one up when they filled out the form (but didn't register it with IPSC)

Another 15% gave the wrong Alias...

There's also a significant number of shooters that don't know the difference between ICS and the current Ontario system.

Of the people that did include ICS information on their match registration from...about 50% had errors.

  • Wrong Alias
  • Wrong Date of Birth
  • Declared wrong Class (which was important because under IPSC Canada rules, you can declare a higher Class than is listed on IPSC.org)

The system is far from perfect...but the competitors could go along way by educating themselves on what it is...and how it works.

Education and fact makes one's brain swell and that hurts. That is why so many do not bother. They do not want to be masochists.

Well I just think it is odd that we have people in the shoot off and going to worlds who are also winning UNCLASSIFIED as well as C and D postions.

As a newly minted B shooter I knew that there was no chance I would win a class prize however there were shooters winning C and D that I would never have a hope of beating.

That just seemed to rob the "real" C and D shooters of a prize....

Hence the system is broken.

I know for a fact that I am a class C shooter base on Burrell GM standing.
And yes I was in the banquet and kinda upset.Seeing a guy win the standard shootoff and be classified C and winning 3rd 4th 5th place finish on some of the stages kinda makes me think if i am on the right organization
Yes personnally I feel i am rob of my class:mad:
but do i feel there is no way they are fixing the errors..No.. I just hope they fix it
before "US" real D-C Class shooter move to other shooting organization

Main problem with ICS is that it is completely voluntary and also the real data based on the actual Level 3 match standings is rarely submitted to ICS.

Well that is a bit of a baby/bathwater solution.

I certainly have my problems with the IPSC Organization, particularly at the top levels. However the game is still FUN and that is what I am there for. Heck that is why I spent a weeks vacation ROing that match.

I just want to FIX the problems if possible..........or minimize them. You mention moving to another organization. However unless that group has a solution then you are no better off. If it DOES then the logical solution to this problem is to implement that working system in Canada.

Every section uses a different system...it would just result in a different set of complaints.

The fact is...no one is submitting updated ICS stages. Very odd in Ontario considering the ICS stages are the same ones we currently use for the Ontario system.

If Ontario members registered an Alias, paid $3 to the MD's putting on Ontario Classifiers and asked those MD's to also submit the results to ICS...the data would actually get updated.

Again...most people don't know how the system works (or could work) and don't care to try and figure it out.

...but....I guess it's easier to just ##### and moan about it on GunNutz..and expect everyone else to do it for you (that one was not aimed at you John)

Well that does explain it............could we not use the section standings?

Something that it at least realistic?

That something I believe could be fixed if all the IPSC sections got together and named exactly what ICS stages were to be used for classifications and you would at least get a better Canadian content.

As it currently stands there are umpteen stages to pick from thus the problem with getting a consistant result.

Storm,
you are respectable shooter. Classification shouldn't matter at all, what I think it matters is final standing against best shooter in the nation. Standing is what it counts. I have never seen that classification alone would win the match. It is a skill and ability to perform to best in the whole competition. I am classify C by ??? who knows who :) Do I care, no way I do, it makes me happy that being C, I could only loose to two true GM, three M, one B and one C and two unclass. shooters.
We have this system and it is not perfect, but it is what it is and I still will shoot to win not to get classified.

Greetings

I should hope not.............LOL.

I ran 3 ICS matches this past winter. As such I think that every EESA member who comes out regularly or even semi regularly is ICS classified.

... unfortunately very few clubs do that.

Our members could shoot the Ontario Classifiers stages (currently using approved ICS stages), have them submitted to IPSC Ontario (no cost) for their Ontario Class...and for $3.00 also have them submitted to IPSC.org to have their ICS Class updated. That would also include the regional ICS Class that is used at our Nationals.

Dead simple...
