Canadian IPSC Nationals

Match results (including teams standings) are posted to the IPSC Canada web site and will stay there during next years. Thanks Sean.

Funny thing is Eugene, people volunteered to work after they got their schedules, really blows your theory out of the water.

The one thing Eugene said that is definitely correct.... You can't expect open and transparent communication from the ipsc Ontario forum....

I haven't voiced any theory yet, but if you want one, here it is. Some people were around anyways, either because they arrived to early or were leaving two days after they were done shooting, or already requested time off for the whole week because match organizers left them no choice, or they could not signup for the match or could not afford or didn't want to pay that money while having spare time, so sign-up to work, so they could shoot a pre-match. With number of active members and ROs in Ontario, mandatory work isn't really necessary and it is likely not much of an effort to get enough volunteer workers.

Thanks to everyone who helped out at the match, the stages were well built and nicely squared away. And massive thanks to the Sponsors. But, and I say this with reservation, this match, for a number of reasons, was not up to par with previous Nationals. For me, and this is me personally, we need more stages with a greater variety of challenges, yes I know Sharon had it's limits as to what they could hold, and did the best they could do, that simply means we need more oversight from IPSC Canada. The near total lack of communication regarding info about registrations (accepted, on wait list, received etc) was totally unacceptable. Same goes for squad lists and shoot times. I am not privy to all the ins and outs of IPSC Ontario, and can imagine they have their own internal struggles to deal with, so again IPSC Canada should have stepped in. First and foremost the Nationals website should be a part of http://www.ipsc-canada.org/nationals/2015 next year would be /nationals/2016 or something. A standardized template that the host section simply fills in, ensuring the same, relevant information is provided each year would be a simple task. Host graphics would fill in the rest of the page so that each year has it's own look and feel. Now true, I am not a web designer, but strangely I know a bunch of IPSC people are, and I'm told this is pretty damn simple to do. I am also of the belief that squads should not be setting steel and pasting targets, we are there for the week, use as on work days, I'd much rather do that than do it during my shooting. As we saw, one shooter now has a custom painted pistol due to a paint can leaking all over it. That is messed up. People should know they have been accepted into the match, in this day and age, the instant some is entered into the system an email should be generated letting them know. The more info the better. Many other regions allow self squading and self work squading for their big matches, I don't understand why we can't figure this out here. The match director would always have the ability to make changes when needed. This match is supposed to be our premiere match, and compared to previous Nationals I just don't think it was. I know that means some people are going to hate me, or tell me to host one myself or whatever, but that's my opinion. I still had fun, and I'm glad I came, and I'm thrilled to see the level of shooters that now occupy PD, but I think it could have been better with not much more work. In talking to a number of people involved in the match, they communicated the same to me and simply shrugged when I questioned them on things. And I am not ungrateful for what we got, though some will accuse me of being so, I just know what I've seen in the past and had hoped to see this year.

Rob, for the record, the match site hosting at ipsc-canada.org always been an option, but none of the previous Nationals MD choose to use it. As a result, only the 2011 Nationals match web site is still online...

But I agree with you, for me this match also didn't had a feel of the National event. Though that is maybe because I didn't volunteer to work. So, bite me for that! :D

As far as the custom painted gun goes, that guy sucked anyways :)
Who the hell was that guy anyways! In case anyone didn't get to see it.

Rob, some of your criticisms are valid, however some of your points are not workable.

Self squadding will not work for the Nationals. Each team member must shoot with the entire team. Teams in the same Division must shoot at the same time.

I disagree with your comment about shooters resetting the stages. I preferred this to having to take one full day to work the match. I've shot many US Area matches, as well as US Single Stack Nationals: in each case the shooters do the work there as well.

Your comments about web presentation, registration, and communication are all well taken and will hopefully be improved for the future Nationals.

ivan, in regards to your comment about self squadding it might work if they would lock/reserve the team slots and let everyone register as they wish. But then it may not work for everyone who travel together or have one car and need to be on the same squad.

BTW, I am still puzzled, how did you shoot stage 9 in 6.85 sec nearly the same time and better HF then the best Open guy and 2 seconds better than Standard and Production best times. That is some great shooting there.
