This past week I was privileged to shoot with some of the top shotgunners in the world including the US National team of Pat Kelly, Jansen Jones, Bryan Ray, and Joe Satterfield.

They were all wondering about IPSC Shotgun in Canada. They indicated that they would love to shoot a large match in Canada. Naturally that got the Canadian teams chatting up the idea of a large (Level III or Level IV) match at EESA.

We have a preliminary plan that we came up for 22 or so stages................

They said that if we build it ................they will come! LOL.. They said that the "hot shots" show would even come up to cover it and the 12 to 18 top us competitors.

Of course we would have to try and get an exemption for mag capacity for the Semi autos and some temporary ranges built but it is an interesting proposition.

The problem of course is.....is there enough interest from Canadian shooters.

Theoretically we could accommodate up to 120 shooters which would certainly make it a feasible venture.......

match fee would be in the $175 to $200 range.

So............if such a match were offered

Would you attend?

Storm, i believe you shot with Jansen Jones not Janson James.

I already started putting ammo aside for the match.... lol

I'd love to see such a match! I'd also be willing to help in any way that I can to get something like this going. IPSC Shotgun is just starting to garner some interest in Canada so if a big match could be organized then that might be just what the sport needs to generate a solid core of supporters.

Do you think that there is a way to get a temporary exemption to the mag laws? If it could be done then I'm sure such a match would certainly attract some of the top shooters. If the powers-that-be stick hard and fast to the mag laws then that might put a bit of a damper on things but you'd still get some great shooters interested. Just tell the semi auto guys that 10+ rounds in a mag is too easy - there's a bigger challenge to running only 5!

The exception for our world Shoot bid, which was not easy to obtain, was only for foreigners. So we're back to 5 rounds in open.

Actually up to 7 in certain cases and 9 rounds total in the gun for regular semi. Of course Grizzly or Valtro can still run full 10 round mags. That is still not the same... and yeah, it would be weird if we'll have 10+ rounds exemption for local competitors. I.e. how would they get a prohibited device in Canada?

In some aspects it might be easier to run such match across the border in US. :)

The exemption won't happen under the laws we have now. They changed after the previous World Shoot attempt. Unless you can get the law changed, don't even waste your time asking.

If we cannot get a exemption for handgun magazine limits I fail to see any exemptions for semi-auto shotguns. It certainly wouldn't hurt to ask because the worst the Feds can say is no.

there isn't even the option of an exemption. When Sean (I think it was him) applied for it for the Pistol World Shoot, the law was different and the CFO could authorize such an exemption, the law changed not long after and it's no longer even a possibility by law.

certainly, i will be there,

certainly, i will be there, we shall have much more Shotgun matches, EESA is doing provincial in Aug. but that is not enough
