Canadian made "black" rifle

Can we just push very hard, change our archeic laws then import us AK's, FALs, Saiga 12's, SPAS-12's, SVD's, etc

That’d be nice, but by the same token, I’d rather keep my money in a canadian business... especially one who is listening to their consumer base.

Or fight harder to make ARs NR. That’d be swell.

Now this is interesting... and can take 5.45 AK mags too :)

bakelite mags are aesthetic as hell and some of the most durable in the world. would love to have a gun that uses them up here.
would be cool to get those illusive quad stack mags too

This is what should be made, and it would be a fantastic platform:

180b milled lower. These already exist so we don't need to worry about the FRT timeline as existing ones could be used. Though a new lower which takes AR safeties, trigger pins and, bolt hold opens would be nice and totally possible. It could also be threaded for AR buffer tube or maybe AK stocks.

180b stamped upper with:
1: Modified barrel trunnion to take AR barrels.
2: With the new barrel trunion make it accept AR barrel nuts and handguards.
3: Use the same 180b BCG and recoil system to save engineering costs.
4: Use off the shelf AR piston systems to save engineering costs.
5: Pic rail on the receiver. No iron sights.

I figure this rifle could be mostly made offshore for about $1500 MSRP and a $0.75 USD/CAD exchange.

First step will likely be the AR180B lower, then the upper.

Full gun price will be likely be under $1000.

I will also have them pull the sample M10X we have here and have a look. Maybe do it as well, with a few changed to lower the price

I'd be down for several of both!

Sure am tired of overpaying for NR rifles, I hope you can bring these to market and I'll support you with as many purchases as I can.

School me on the issue of AK versus AR mags.
Several here have suggested using AK mags.
My understanding is that x39 can feed from an unmodified AR mag, but if too many rounds are attempted, it will misfeed.
However, with a 5 or 10 round limit, this is not an issue. Only 20 or more seems to be a problem.

On a similar note, can a regular Stanag AR mag feed 5.45x39 ammo reliably?
If so, that would be a nice option.

XCR 10 round pistol mags work flawlessly for me. Any of the long curved body mags I've tried have had feeding issues.

I'll edit this into my first post also.

I would like to see a complete modular system.
Also, both traditional and bullpup layouts, with many parts common to both layouts.
Something that can be swapped around and customized, and that has a lot of parts already made.
This obviously means using a lot of AR parts, but yet NOT an AR.

*AR-15 fire control group (FCG) parts (trigger, safety, etc). These parts are common, cheap, reliable, and approved as not FA.
*AR-15 barrel dimensions, but without barrel extension. Bolt head and barrel extension to have larger beefier lugs. Perhaps 3 lugs?
*Bolt head to have a larger diameter head to allow for larger dia cartridge heads to be chambered.
*Completely new bolt carrier, that cannot be deemed a "variant".
*AR-15 pistol grip.

*Short stroke gas system
*Adjustable gas system
*Recoil spring to telescope into rear of bolt carrier, to allow for a side folder or bullpup design
*"Classic" wood (like AK-47 or VZ52/57), or modern Aluminum and polymer. Ability to swap parts back and forth.
*Aluminum to have M-Lok mounts. Wood to be old-school.
*

Thoughts?

Keep it simple by using "off the shelf" components as much as possible, design a new bolt, carrier group, a set of receiver housing.

Call it the CIR short for Canadian Indigenous Rifle.
