While reading an old article about sliding breech double guns (eg. Darne, Charlin, etc.) the author gave a small list of manufacturers of such guns. He ended the list with "and a lone Canadian maker".

Who is this maker who made sliding breech shotguns in Canada? When were they made, where, and in what numbers? Has anyone ever seen one?

I freely admit my ignorance regarding these guns. I checked the specialized forum run by Geoffroy Gournet (DarneUSA) but could find no clue. Can anyone provide any info on this subject?

Thank you in advance for any input you may offer.

Might have referred to the CIL (Canadian Industries Ltd.) shotguns that were on the Canadian market 40+ years ago. The thing is they were, as far as I know, actually produced in an overseas factory. Try a Google.

To the best of my knowledge the C-I-L firearms were not manufactured by C-I-L but for C-I-L by other manufactures.Savage made a lot of the C-I-L firearms.

Hmmn, another surprise. I wasn't aware that C.I.L. marketed a sliding breech double. However, the context of the article I was reading was definitely about those gunmakers who actually manufactured sliding breech double shotguns. I don't think C.I.L. is the answer to my question.

This type of action is a little unusual in North America. Not rare, but not common either. Here are a couple of pictures which illustrate the type of action I am referring to (in this case a French Darne):

So, who was the Canadian who made guns like this here?
