Canadian Made Swiss Arms AR Lower

Ok, so with enough PM's in & interest from a 3rd party we're going to give this a go with NEA.

The Lower will be based on the SIG 556 lower and will accept AR mags and use a AR mag release. We will be redesigning some aspects of the receiver that based on my experience with this part should make it stand out a bit.

Basic Specs -

- Will require the end-user to swap the trigger group and pistol grip (cost savings, we'll look at SA parts kits, but they're REAL expensive)
- Will include AR mag release
- Will accept AR stocks


Now for your part.. any requests? Keep in mind that they'll likely be limited to cosmetic or ergonomic changes.

No suggestions, other than try to get a price on the SA parts kits, even with the extra cost there will be people interested and its great to see that people are putting together interesting projects like this.

Swiss 550 parts kits retail for ~$400-$500 for a couple springs, a trigger, hammer and selector.

Is the upper or lower considered the "firearm" in the eyes of the law? Would a new lower mean new FRT#, or would it all stay the same?

The upper is the registered item, SA lowers are not licensed.

OEM grip or AR grip?

Keep a swing out style trigger guard so I can wear gloves when shooting coyotes with 10 round LAR mags.

Definatly would be interested in buying the trigger group parts kit.

OEM Grip, can't use a AR grip because of the design of the lower.

Will still have the swing down trigger guard.

We'll look into parts kits.

This being the case, to change uppers would be a new rifle correct? Will a variety of uppers be available at some point; i.e. barrel length, barrel diameter and calibres? No idea why they chose the upper to be the serialized part. One of the mysteries of the universe I suppose.

We're not offering uppers, barrels or anything else. Just lowers. There's already a variety of uppers available.. SA Classic, Carbine and CQB. If you only want the upper, call me anytime and I'll buy your lower off you.

I love the SA guns, but aside from the cost, the 5 round only mags has kept me from considering one since the 10 round AR mags became available.

If I recall correctly, there had been some criticism of the 556 for it's longish reach for the mag release. I also seem to recall there were some mods required to swap out a 556 lower onto a Swiss Arms rifle. I hope yours can avoid any mods to the origional upper.

A lot of European manufacturers or national laws seem to pay more attention to the part that holds the barrel. The FN/FAL, G3, etc seem to follow this trend.

Oddly at one time some Swiss Arms rifles had the lower registered and some had the upper.

First off, thank you! I am 100% on board with this and will purchase!

I do not have any first hand knowledge, but I have heard that the Swiss Arms upper assembly requires modification to use most AR15 mags in a SIG556 lower. Would it be possible to engineer the lower to overcome this design issue?

Will the lowers be built from Aluminum or Steel? I would think Aluminum to keep costs down.

Will the stock adapter be able to fold? Hope so! If not, it would be nice to have the Swiss Arms stock as an option... I know, wishful thinking.

This may not be possible on this project, but could a bolt release lever like the MAGPUL BAD Lever be designed for the Swiss Arms? Maybe more similar to the ACR or RRA LAR-8 bolt release? There seems to be enough area at the front of the trigger guard to make it work. Probably too much to engineer.
