Kick door, enter room, fiddle with parallax (because it really matters at 15 feet)..meet god.

200m probably makes more sense than the 300m of the C79.
i always thought the elcan C79 was set at 100m.. as it is a short range scope. 300m? that explains so much about its crappy eye box.

I figured we would pick up the specter DRs.. throw switch for magnification, ultra robust. great eyebox, good ridicules alvalible.... little heavy... but a true combat optic for riflemen

The Elcan's default first range dial is 200m.

DR is ok, but if they want 1-6X DR is getting too big and not versatile. the lower power is kinda a sweet spot for identifying target within 100m Too high at 6X the FOV is too small and getting into tunnel vision. having 6X allows better target identification at 200m

The vari-power scope is great, but the eye box and parallax are also way less forgiving than lower power fix magnification sight. The marksmanship training standard will need to be higher and people will start finding out shooting at 6X they cannot be as sloppy as before with the C79.

The dr 1x4 is definitely they way to go on a 5.56 . My buddy back in the day put a 1.5x6 on a tavor7. That was a good matchuo as making 700m shots with that rifle is more then viable and 4x at that range just isnt quite enough to get a good line up on the gongs.

It should be intresting because apparently a lot of the new recruits can't speak either of canadas two offical languages. I remember in afghanistan what happens when rifle training gets lost in translation.
The local ANP were walking around with the rear site leafs on the aks set to 800m.. some even had the site leaf flipped up (like an old lee enfield site) i was confused, we were all confused... so we get the translator over, ask wtf theynare doing.
The translation they got was the iron sites controlled how far they could shoot.. you slid it to 800m to "get more power so it can shoot further"
What troop doesnt want his rifles power turned up all the way? So they were walking around at 800m on the sites at all times... we never did beat that out of most of them...
 
Looks like this is the 14.5 full spectrum one for "close combat", Strategic Sciences MFMD and in the cool brown colour.

IMHO they should give Aimpoint with magnifier to half of the people and 1-6X to the other half.

Yes but parallax is set at 300m. It is why people group better at 300m than 200m. The 200m deliberate head position struggle bus is real.

You really do need to read/watch a couple of reviews about the Strategic Sciences Multi-Function Muzzle-Device (MFMD). Unlike a suppressor which offers primarily noise reduction with some recoil control and flash suppression as secondary byproducts, the MFMD is designed to maximize noise reduction to hearing safe level, while reducing recoil by 60% and almost completely eliminating muzzle flash. Add on one of the two available QD "extenders" and you increase the noise reduction even further. It is amazing suppressor technology which is taking the industry by storm. The US military is terribly interested, as are competing Silencer companies. The MFMD represents a generational shift in available suppressor technology and you dismiss it for its odd aesthetics at your own peril. The MFMD is much more than an odd-looking muzzle device. It works better than any other suppressor currently on the market, period.

weird looking but obviously it works.

muzzle devices have always been a little black magic involved with the design but now that the designers are using hard science to maximize the designs and have 3D printing and don't have to rely on machining or stamping limitations to make parts the new designs are not limited like the ones in the past.

And just like the Elcan Spectre DR 1-4x LPO which took US SOCOM by storm back in the early GWOT, the Millbrook Strategic Sciences MFMD is a purely Canadian design that EVERYONE in the industry is raving about. We Canucks are capable of some pretty impressive R&D when left to our own devices....

I have recently been researching moderator and other muzzle device design and to be honest I am astounded by how much I don't know. I'm a fairly smart fellow with a good background in things like ammo and explosives so I understand blast wave propagation and the math behind fluid dynamics. Its a huge rabbit hole to start going down.

its fairly easy to make something that works ok, it's making it work better and optimizing it that takes an in-depth understanding.
