Canadian National Sporting Clays Association AGM
Good morning Claybreakers
It looks like winter is mostly behind us (touch wood.)
Our AGM will be held in a couple of weeks at Silver Willow Sporting Clays, near Carstairs, AB. March 16/2013. On the agenda will be a couple of important items.
One will be the increase of the number of seats on the executive. We originally had five charter members; of which two of stepped down over the last couple of years. Their places have been filled with members of our Alberta Board, as well as input and assistance being provided by Pierre Dubois from Montreal, Bob Meisner from Cambridge, Graham Perry from Saskatchewan, and Vic Thomas from BC.
I think it is imperative that we expand our board dramatically to allow those positions be established to show our cross country inclusion. So as President, I will be making the following motions at the AGM.
1) I suggest that the executive of the Canadian National Sporting Clays Association expand the directorship from 7 available positions to 9 with the provision that an additional 2 members may be appointed to the board at the discretion of and with a majority support of the Board of Directors.
This expansion will allow for a provincial representative to be elected from each province. Although not a requirement that a province put a name forward, or that all seats be filled, membership should keep in mind that he purpose of this board is to promote the sport across the entire country and by including every province at that table we firmly establish that we are a national organization.
2) I suggest that the Canadian National Sporting Clays Association create a steering committee of 10 members. These members are to be appointees of the executive, taking into account any names put forward by the Director from that province, or the Association.
The role of this committee is to act as support for the directors in facilitating two way communication between the Association and its membership and to act as ambassadors for the Association as they travel to sporting clays and other events related to our sport. On the occasion special committees be struck and the directors require help for special projects, steering committee members will be looked to for assistance and guidance. In the event a directorship is vacated the members of the steering committee would be approached first to fill that void. This committee would also be expected to provide a continuity in the direction of the Association.
The following people will not be able to attend the meeting but have sent emails that indicate that they would accept nominations to the Board of Directors for the Association, and I will be nominating them.
1) Pierre Dubois (Quebec) - Pierre has been our liaison with Fitasc & ICTSF over the last few years. He is fully bilingual and has been a fantastic asset to us in our communication with them. He has relationships with many international shooters and Sporting Clays organizations.
2) Bob Meisner (Ontario) - Bob has been shooting across Canada and the US for several years. He runs the sporting clays section at Galt Sportsmen’s Club, and is our host for the World Championship there this year.
3) Scott Masniuk (Manitoba) - Scott runs a portable Sporting Clays business, called Dead-A-Pair shooting sports. He is from Winnipeg and carries the recommendation of Tim Putnam, who many of you may know from his various trips to our clubs in the west.
4) Graham Perry (Saskatchewan) - Graham runs Hanley Sporting Grounds and has been known for years in the west as a coach, gunsmith and shoot host. He shoots in Texas and Canada, and most anywhere else.
5) Vic Thomas (BC) - Vic is the Sporting Clays chair for the Lake Windermere District Rod and Gun Club. He has been a supporter of the organization since its inception and has put in numerous hours of volunteer time.
If anyone else wants their name to be put forward, that cannot attend the shoot, please send an email to me at jasonphilp@hotmail.com and I will put your nomination forward.
I had originally intended that this meeting address some upcoming issues and plans for the association, but now feel that it would be best to address that in our steering committee and directors meetings. If you have any issues that you would like addressed by either of the two groups or both, please feel free to forward those and I will address the new board and present the emails as written.
Thank you very much for your time and your attention to our growing association. Our shoot books have been printed and the mailouts have started. If you haven’t received one, please let us know and we will do our best to see that you receive one directly or at the very least they are available at the club you shoot at most frequently. After you have seen it, please give a warm thank you to Bill Campbell, our Secretary who did the layout work on it. I think you will find the flow and organization of it to be excellent.
And please find the time to say thanks to Wayne Norton, our Vice President. He and his company Apollo Machine and Welding have covered the expense of the printing and distribution of the book. It is the generosity of our members that have kept us going thus far. Fantastic job.
Scott Iverson is having our raffle tickets printed and will be letting us know when he has them in hand ready to sell. No later than the Cabin Fever shoot in Grand Prairie, for sure, but I expect he will have them available to purchase before that.
All of our members have been spreading the word, we look forward to your active engagement in the association as it grows.
