Canadian Rangers and the No.4 rifle

If you think the LIEberals are keeping C68 afloat because they believe in it you're sadly mistaken. It's worth it to them to keep funding a bad project as opposed to admitting to the Ontario sheeple that it's ineffective and they wasted 2 Billion that could have bought over 200 MRI machines and cured over 100,000 people of cancer over the last 3 years alone.

After all, they want the birkenstock wearing, fleece vest toting free sprit welfare recipients & squeegee people and downtown toronto imported voters to keep checking the box next to the red lettering first and foremost...

Mental note to sell Birkenstocks....

(J/K I don't own any)

The No4Mk1 Long Branch Enfields that were used by the Royal Canadian Army Cadets for many, many years were withdrawn a number of years ago (1999?). There must be a couple thousand of those now in DND storage somewhere. These rifles were generally well maintained and were shot maybe once or twice a year, depending on how active the Corps' shooting program was. Up until that time, a DND ammo tech came around once a year with his parts box and fixed any problems, including checking the headspace.

303 Ammo is still being procured regularly by DND from IVI. Although marked as military ammunition, it has a pointed soft point bullet so that the Rangers can safely use it for hunting. I don't think the government is going to replace the venerable No4Mk1 any time soon :p

Both SP and FMJ IVI ammo is currently being sold locally. 97 vintage.

Sold commercially, or privately? To the best of my knowledge this ammo would not have been released for sale, and may in fact be stolen.

Sold commercially, by one of the main local shops. I'd be more than surprised if they are selling stolen goods.

Not a regular stock item, but they do have a few cases.

Is it packed in 800rd cases with two .50 BMG boxes inside? With the ammo in plain cardboad 20 rd boxes? I suppose it could be from a contract overrun, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Shame they aren't sending the confiscated A-stan and Balkan weapons back to Canada to be cleaned up and re-used. We would save loads of money that way. 8)

Sorry to go off topic abit but...

Are Canadian Army Weapons Techs under the badge of an Engineer company? Or are they Infantry? I'd like to go into the Army Reserves, and work on rifles, but I'm rather fond of the Infantry side of things.

I believe weapons tech or "gun plummers" wear the EME cap badge, or "Electrical&Mechanical Engineers," it used to be Royal Canadian Electrical & Mechanical Engineers or as we called them at that time " REME", We can thank Mr.Trudeau for this as he and his Liberal people had no use for our British Commonwealth Military heritage ,and moved very fast to remove the Royal title from our military cap badges

who makes these stupid decisions ???

Back in 95, 2,200 #4's were destroyed 1 km from Ranger Training H.Q.. Approximately 1 month later a request for 2,000 #4's was put through the system and were purchased from the British government, for the Northern Rangers. Odd I know. In 91 the last of 80,000 C1's went to War Storage 202 Wk Shop. So the Rangers can still draw on these, if it were okay'ed. As for C7's, they look and shoot good, but they would be a poor choice for the real wilderness on a daily basis.
I beleive a replacement for both the #4 and the C7 are required. For the betterment of Canada.
I am curious to where the order came from to destroy some 2,000 N0.4 rifles and then order the same weapon a month later, is this made by civilians "Liberal appointed of course" in DND or some Army officer with too much time on his hands and sitting on his brains. Im' looking forward to hearing to anyone in the "know", as to who orders these things done, Thanks :?: :?: :?:

I had to laugh at the E.A.L. project. Some pratt in Ottawa didn't realise the beating a service rifle is subjected to. From what others have told me, a lot of them wound up being dumped in the ocean because they couldn't stand up to use by the Rangers
Fortunately I have one of each. (civillian and Military) Thanks, folks!
Thats the reason the govt had to go out and reaquire No4's.

Even though the Rangers perform very necessary functions, the govt treats them like the unwanted stepchild.

Now if the govt destroyed and then purchased No4s that would make two contracts on which bribes, kickbacks ,sweetheart untendered deals and 17.5% commissions would be paid instead of a simple draw from stores. Sorry I watched the Gomery inquiry.

What is wrong with the FN FAL rifle as a replacement to the no.4 ?A bolt action rifle that was originally designed in the early 1900's that shoots a .303 british round. Or a semi auto rifle with a pistol grip chambered in 7.62 nato.

The ballistics between the two are not a huge differance but the supply of 7.62 is easier to get. A 7.62 nato rd will kill the same as a .303 british will. The weight of a no.4 is 4.11 kg while the FN is slightly heavier at 4.45 kg. Not that big of a differance when you are getting a more offensive/defensive rifle.

It is time that the military steps into the 21st centuary. This also includes the Canadian Rangers.

Yes I do know that the no. 4 takes alot more abuse but then again I would assume many FN rifles did to in the same envirement.

Keep in mind the Gov't has nothing to do with this policy. The Army DOES trust me to take a rifle home with me. I don't believe the C1 would be viewed by the brass as significantly different from the No4.

The Army takes their orders from bureaucrats (Liberals).
The No.4 is a WW2 bolt action rifle.
The C1(A1) is an evilbabykilling assault weapon with evil things like carrying handles, flash hiders, pistol grips, semi-auto actions, etc. All things the ancient Enfield does not have.

Liberals also get nervous when First Nations people have better rifles then they do.

I'd be interested in hearing more about the guy exchanging shots with the RCMP.
