Canadian Revolver use WWII

Barely related

My uncle was in CF in WW2; armoured.

He once said that he would take 9mm ammo which was plentiful and "bugger up the rim" with a pair of pliers and the 9mm rounds would stay in place in either an Enfield or Smith, and they would shoot for fun when time was available.

British and Canadians investigated use of 9mm in Enfield and S&W and found that the chambers bulged. the 9mm ctg has 60% more pressure than the .380".

My father was issued an Enfield pistol when he landed in Sicily (to supplement a Thompson SMG) .... by the time his Division (1st Cdn Infantry Div) were active in the Netherlands ... he had a Browning HP. ... and apparently declined all the (captured) lugers he might have wanted.

the pic of the Canadian officer with a BHP and what appears to be a leather ‘jerkin’ shows the pistol lanyard around his neck. While this is a commonly illustrated practice (including RCMP) I wonder how common this was? Walking around with a noose equipped with a slip knot around ones neck has never struck me as very clever.

I often wondered about wearing a lanyard around one’s neck , though I noticed the photo of Lord Lovat , commanding No.4 Commando, , after returning from the Dieppe raid with a lanyard attached to his holstered 45 auto

Thanks GrantR and Ganderite for the suggestions. Despite having a quantity of hollow base wadcutters, I have switched to solid wadcutters due to having had a separation of the hollow base that stayed in the barrel cause a bulge in a favorite pistol's barrel when the next bullet forced it out of the barrel.
