Canadian Rimfire Precision Series - launching in 2018

Is there any info where newb’s can get an idea of an example match format?
Is there Sighting in at match?
Are any stages at typical static range distances 50m/100my?

When is the competitor advised of the “non standard” distance? ie prior to the match or not until you are on the “shooting line”?

Are there any unknown distance stages?

Thanks

VREX,
We did publish a sample match to the members of the facebook group to show what the stages look like. They are exactly the same as PRS match formats with the exception of the distances and target sizes. There is typically no sighting in at a match but we are experimenting to see what we can do to help folks who need to at least confirm zero. We've done some sighting in but it adds a delay to the match.
There are some stages that are static and usually are the Know or Find Your Limits type stages fixed at 75 or 100m. We also have a static long distance stage around 275m. All of our targets are known distance and we publish the Course of Fire 48 hours before the match to allow competitors to prep their drop charts and calculators.

If you are near Owen Sound next weekend you can drop by the match and check it out. More details on our Facebook page.

I likely won’t have my rig set up in time for this match but are there any requirements for spectators? Might be up near the area and figured I would drop in and see what it’s all about.

Thanks Rick, I don't have Facebook but this helps!
Zeroing before hand is no issue and I agree it saves time.
Can't make it up to Owen Sound next weekend but looking forward to the match in June.

I'll pass the word around my club, we get a good turnout every Sunday morning to shoot steel with 22RF offhand, so there might be some interest in your rimfire PRS match.

You'll just have to sign the waiver. If you bring coffee for the volunteers, we might let you take a turn working the spotting scope all day. :) Bringing a chocolate dip donut for the match director, will also provide untold rewards. hahaha.

You are welcome to drop by. pm me for the address.

Would the Bushnell Rimfire 6-18x40 be a decent quality for these matches

KCC01989,
That scope is more than enough for these matches. It doesn't have a reticle designed for holdovers but it is not needed this year. We might be introducing some "no turret dialing" stages next year but for now you should be good to go.

Ah got interested in this, then the $500.00 killed it. I am getting a Tikka T1x and its around $650.00. Oh well.

I think once they develop a list of models and make it available people will be more comfortable with the classes. In speaking with friends of mine, we also felt the $500 limit was a little awkward.

I'd love to see this out east!

You'd be pretty much restricted to a certified range in NS. As for 300m you'd probably be limited there as well - NSRA, AMA, MVRRC all have ranges out to 300+. NSRA probably has the most smallbore shooters and AMA is all about moving and shooting (IPSC).

MVRRC wont allow .22LR on the 300 meter range. Also the overhead thing to keep you from shooting in the sky is too low to have a high enough arc on the .22

We have those sky baffles at my outdoor range too. It's only out to 200m but still annoying to be restricted to centerfire trajectory at this range. I get around it by intentionally shooting at objects below the targets to miss the baffle.

Shouldn't this be called the "Canadian .22lr Precision Series" as those of us who love our rimfire .17HMRs are not invited to the party?

.17 is a totally different animal, unfortunately. I feel for yah but in my opinion, there's little comparison to .22LR.

Certainly not going to argue with you on that point, you are correct. I wonder though, could there not be a separate "class" added for those wanting to participate but shooting .17HMRs?

Food for thought...

I suppose the challenge would be getting enough people interested to participate. If there's a demand I would imagine they would accommodate it.

Should I even ask about my 17 WSM?
Hahaha.

Then to stay on topic....
Do you have any dates listed?
I am curious about Taber specifically?
