Hi all,

A friend of mine has an old Cooey Model 75 .22 which extracts very poorly. I am hoping to find a new, or very good condition used, bolt assembly. I doubt very much that he or I would have the skills to replace just the extractor itself, so replacing the entire bolt assembly is preferred. Does anyone know where in Canada there might be one that isn't priced out of reach? :)

Your best bet is to put a WTB on the Equipment Exchange for a bolt or extractor. Keep in mind, these aren't always drop-in replacements and may require fitting by someone knowledgeable.

A good workaround is to simply pull the bolt handle to the upright position after firing, then instead of pulling the bolt handle back to eject the used casing, pull the bolt knob straight back. Cooey 39's and 75's are notorious for failing ejectors after so many years of use. The workaround really does work in most cases. Otherwise, you can contact Sheldon Stoller in Winnipeg. He has a source for replacement ejectors I believe.

I have a Cooey 39 that was an extremely poor extractor right from new (about 50 years ago).
I always just did a "workaround" similar to what islandguy describes above. Never wanted to take the bolt apart for complete cleaning in case I screwed something up.
Then one day I thought I'd try to clean the innards of the bolt without taking it apart.
I submerged the bolt in a half gallon of solvent (read gasoline) and worked the cocking piece in and out as far as it would go about 20 times.
Used a stiff bristle brush on the bolt face.
Then, holding the cocking piece back I blew 125 lbs compressed air inside in all directions.
Repeated that several times.
Held the cocking piece back and poured gun oil inside, worked it in good, and let the excess drain out.

The rifle has extracted 100% and just like it should have from new ever since.

Ya I guess I keep forgetting that not everyone has changed them. Done many in my time and it can be a bit finicky if your unfamiliar

Finicky yes, but still doable.
Use the search, thought I saw an old ad where someone was selling just the extractor.
