Does anyone know of a good source for K31 rifles in Canada and ammo for it?
I'm interested in buying one, and I've found a shop that apparently has some (Down East Trading in NS - anyone ever deal with them?), but the best one they have seems to be in pretty rough shape based on the pictures. Mind you, they only want $250 for it, but I'm wondering if I've just missed other sources.
I'm not looking for a collector piece, but a shooter/hunter, so blemishes on the stock are fine, and I'm looking to spend in the $250 range (I know, I'm cheap).

Any info would be appreciated, including info on where to find ammunition for it (7.5x55 swiss, especially the legendary match-grade Swiss general issue FMJ stuff).

If this is it, do not hesitate to grab one from Salter/Down East Trading. I picked one up from them locally - bluing and bore are excellent, stock has some character and the price was excellent.

As for the ammo.. yeah still working on that, too.

I agree. I bought my K31 from them a little over a year ago. Great to deal with. Besides them your pretty much S.O.L. in regards to finding them from a dealer. Everything else is private sales. Which are expensive.

You will find the ammo around. I know they make factory ammo but I've just been buying surplus GP11. It's loaded pretty hot, but damn does it shoot nice.

You can find it at any good gun shop or from the good folks on the EE.

Buy that K31, you wont regret it.

Handloading is the way to go for the 7.5x55.

Costs about 60 - 65 cents a round to load your own stuff That's match-grade with hunting slugs. Beats a buck a pop for military stuff.

Any .30-calibre slug will work, Lee makes dies, Trade-Ex Canada (link above at 10 o'clock from the beaver) has the brass.

Yes, Norma Projektilfabriken in Aamotfors, Sverige makes it, but it can be expensive. So does Prvi Partizan in Uzice, Serbia ("Partizan" and "Highland" brands) but I don't know f you can get it here.

Me, I handload the stuff for my 1889s. Easy round to reload, too.

Also purchased one from salter ,dout they have many left.I was very pleased with it the stock was a little rough but the metal and bore were excelent ,soldiers name under the but plate and everything beter get it whilest you stil can i dont think you will find this deal for a K31 again anytime soon as they arent makeing anymore

If the 7.5x55 brass is impossible to find, look for .284Win brass.
Re-sizes to 7.5x55 fairly easily with good case lube.
I like castor oil for this application.
Cases last quite some time.
Rotate the .284win case as you re-size it to 7.5x55.
Make sure cases fit in your chamber before starting to reload them.

Don't follow published C.O.L if you use it in a K31.
it will most likely be too long.

Find what C.O.L works for the 30 caliber bullet you want to use.

I also use berdan primers to reload GP11 cases.

I found my Hornady manual COL was 0.100" too long with 168gr Amax bullets. The throat on my K31 is very short. Not a huge deal, but I was surprised to find how short it was. It was the first time I have not been able to load well over the manual COL and still not engrave the lands.

So I ended up buying the K31 from Down East Trading. They were great to deal with.
I also picked up a CASE of GP11 from a fellow CGNer - also great to deal with.
I took the gun out to the range today, and all I can say is this gun/ammo combination is awesome!
I did some open sight shooting at 50 yds to start out with. Got decent groups of about 1.5". I then did some open sight shooting at 100 yds. The first group was literally a 1" group. I was ready to get rid of my almost new Win M70 in 30-06 after seeing what this old K31 was capable of. Anyways, as I expected the first 3 shot group must have been a fluke. The next few groups opened up quite a bit (~2"), but still excellent for a 60 year old gun with open sights. K31s are amazing!

Howdy

I could start a thread titled,"surprising people at a range with a K31."

The first thing asked is usually, "won't that bolt fly out of the gun?"

followed by, "what's the ring on the back for?"

Other's include, "how can it use a .308" bullet when it's 7.5 not 7.62?"

"What do you mean you reload the berdan primed cases?"

"The trigger pull came that way? no way!"

" What do you mean Switzerland has an army, they are neutral.":slap:

But the best is when they see how small a group K31's shoot with iron sights. They seem intimidated by the rifle.:p

Love K31's:D
