This year is our 22nd yr of hosting the longest running sporting clay tournament in Canada. The Oshawa Clay & Target Club has been hosting this event since 1998.(we lost two years because of covid) In previous years before covid we had competitors from the U.S.A and across Canada. We have always taken pride on delivering the most for the competitors, great targets, lots of vendors, large payouts, trophy's from master through E class, complimentary Saturday evening dinner and this year we are raffling of three shotguns for all competitors that register for more than two events.
You can view our flyer and register on winscore.com.

Thanks and hope to see you there.

I'll be there for the 100 target Prelim event on the Friday and the 200 target Main event on the Saturday and the Sunday. Always a fun time and well run shoot.

Hi Bert;

Just looking for a clarification on your post where you said... "we are raffling of three shotguns for all competitors that register for more than two events." According to Winscore there are only 3 events being offered, the prelim, the main event and FITASC. So, I assume that mean competitors have to register for all 3 events being offered to be eligible for the gun draw? When you say 'more than two' when there are only 3 events, that's a bit disingenuous.

Thanks.

Here are a few photos from the 2022 Canadian Open Sporting Clays Championship held at the Oshawa Clay and Target Club in Oshawa Ontario on August 19-21 2022 and a few of my observations ...

The targets for the Prelim event on Friday and the Main event on Saturday and Sunday were phenomenal. Most, if not all stations could have been shot with an IC choke. They were very fair for all Class level shooters. The HOA score was in the low to mid 90's and many scores were in the 70's or 80's. Kudos to the target setter! The station with the trampoline was different but a lot of fun.

The registration process was quick and efficient. Hats off to the men and women working the registration desks and to the cashiers. The dinner on Saturday evening was a BBQ'd steak with several side dishes and bread. A soft drink to go with the dinner would have been nice but none were available. Lots of great raffle prizes were available including flats of shells and three firearms.

There is some room for improvement for next years event though. Some of the trap machines were malfunctioning which caused a back log of shooters. For example, there was one station where every single shooter in the squad in front of us had at least one broken bird, some had several and every shooter in our squad also had at least one broken bird and some had several. On both Saturday and Sunday when our squad reached our final station there was no scorer/referee to be found. We had to call the club house and eventually they sent someone out to score our station. We were told on Saturday the scorer left because she thought all the squads were finished for the day and on Sunday we were told the scorer left to have some lunch, again because he thought all the squads were finished the morning rotation. Some of the shooting stations didn't have bins to throw the spent shells and empty shell boxes into so over the course of 3 days there were piles of garbage at those stations. The weather was very hot and humid but there wasn't much bottled water available on the course, a lot of the coolers were empty. A patio umbrella being used to shade one of the scorers came loose in a gust of wind and stuck a shooter in the face. Turns out it wasn't secured to anything, just stuck in the ground. I guess that's why the club gets everyone to sign a liability waiver! lol

It was nice to see the vendors out supporting the event. I supported them with a several impulse purchases which my wife doesn't know about yet. :)

Here are a few photos from the 2022 Canadian Open Sporting Clays Championship held at the Oshawa…..snip

I’m sure you’ll be spearheading the bid for the 2023 championships at one of the many clubs you belong to. Then you’ll be sure to organize and run it as well and show Oshawa how it’s done.

It sounds as if the criticism is constructive.
I don't know anything about this particular club but I have experience with volunteer clubs and I can tell you just how difficult it is to put on a shoot of this size with volunteer labor. To start with, it's difficult to even find enough people to volunteer let alone find people who know much about working a shoot. No matter how organised the core group are and how much planning goes into the shoot there will always be things that slip through the cracks such as not enough bottled water on the course or a machine that suddenly starts breaking targets, maybe it was a box of targets that got dropped and half of them were cracked... who knows. It sounds like there were no safety issues so that's a huge plus and kudo's to the organisers for that, I've been to shoots where I've seen several safety issues. Sounds like overall it was a real nice event!

Your right, there's nothing wrong with constructive criticism if it come from a place of experience. We have been organizing this tournament for 22years with great success. I have been to tournaments all over the U.S and Canada for the past 32 years. I know what a well run tournament from a average tournament. We have competitors from south of the boarder and across Canada that come every year. I will admit that there are hick-up's that could have been avoided, but say that there were negatives than positives at this tournament is a bit of a stretch. It took forty people and thousands of hours of work to put this tournament on. We always pride ourselves on giving the shooter's the best experience possible for the full three days of the shoot.
We gave away a large prize purse ($12000.00), raffled off three shot guns and 15 other prizes. We had a wonderful dinner on Saturday night supplied by the club and water was available for everyone. I know of no other tournament in Canada that gives more back to the shooters than this one. I know of no other shooting organization in Canada that puts on a tournament of this caliber. If there are it's a well kept secret.
Now if someone could find me a mentor club to show us how to do it better I'm all ears.

Hi Bert, will you be holding this shoot in August next year ? If my memory is correct, this shoot was early July in the past .
