Yup. Exactly. Now the big question is....

Will the Type 97 get here before the Tantal? Or vice versa? Hahaha

Maybe the bank account will have time to recover before the RPD gets a green light.

Honestly, I would rather have this rifle in 7.62x39. I don't understand why you wouldn't? A real AK is that caliber, I understand the 74 is 5.45 but AKs are famously 7.62. Also in Canada good luck buying surplus rounds of 5.45, especially after all these rifles flood the market. Unless dealers start finding stashes of that ammo and bringing it in we would be in a huge shortage. I am happy it's 7.62x39 as that ammo is easily found. And yes I know, this isn't an AK, it's a Tantal which originally came in 5.45, but we aren't all getting this excited because it's a Tantal... We want AKs!

Noooo....I want an AK-74! 5.45 is the good stuff, 7.62 is crap.

It is kind of a chicken and the egg scenario.

Which came first, the 5.45 or the gun to shoot the 5.45.

Bring in the gun, and the ammo will follow. Bring in the ammo without a gun, and you might end up sitting on a lot of ammo.

Would you be more likely to buy a gun with little chance of ammo, or ammo with little chance of a gun? I'd buy the gun, and figure out a way to make the ammo until some surplus or manufactured stuff comes along.

Wait till we bring the Tantal to the range before the firearms community knows about it. I bet we'll get a lot of weird looks. That's prohib!

How is this not an AK47 variant? Everything I can find about the design of this rifle indicates that it's a variant of the AK74. I have a bad feeling that the RCMP inspectors haven't even seen this rifle yet and a FRT # was issued incorrectly.

From what I can figure, the bore may not be chromed on the non restricted ones as the barrels are going to have to be made specifically for the Canadian market and be 18.5"+ in length to make them non restricted. With that in mind, they may be just the cheapest barrels they can produce then. Who really knows at this point?

Looks great, but I'll take a Type 97 before this one. Still on my "want" list though! I'll be interested to see the actually pricing on these.

Like Daniel mentioned, the internals are very similar but not interchangeable. The only thing similar would obviously be the look to a point and the fact that it can take AK mags.
But yep, we're all waiting for the FRT number.

Interesting... In that link it says the bore is chromed. I think people in these threads have been saying it is not...

So is it?

The American can import military style firearms so they get part kits and build from them so its up to the person making them if they are chrome lined or not. We are getting them from Poland? And theirs aren't, we'll atleast to then 5.45s aren't.
