Interarms does actually know what it's doing (they've been doing it profitably since the 1950's) I'd guess the 762 will be chrome lined as well - because there are more chrome lined barrels for rifles of this type in 762 than there are non-chrome lined.

i totally believe the restricted ones will have chrome barrels because they have no reason not to use their standard ak barrels. Its the non res we have to fear for because theyll be making them longer and may not chrome line them since most aks are typically between 16 and 17 inches long again this my theory i hope to be pleasently suprised!

Probably just the ones labelled "Tantal".

If I can, I might go with a '100 series side folding stock and maybe a real '74 style muzzle brake.

The importer should have kept their lips shut till they were ready to ship because of this. Face it, the RCMP firearms lab isn't the sharpest place in the world and I wouldn't put it past us to figure it out for them before these rifles even arrive. I'd go as far as to say all threads should be locked and deleted till they arrive. No point doing their job for them.

I agree lock and delete this thread until Urban Tactical actually hands the first one over the counter.
 
While I'd prefer chromed, I'm not going to sweat it too much, from what I understand it's not overly difficult or expensive to swap barrels on these things, and there's always Melonite.
 
I'm going to start reading through all the posts I missed, but are they just bringing it in in 7.62x39 for now? 5.45x39 would be sweet too.

A quick Google found a tantal barrel from green mountain barrels. Readily available spare barrels that are not too difficult to change would be nice (as opposed to the vz).

If this and the type 97 show up my wife is going to be pissed haha....

Actually these new rifles arent even called "tantals". I talked to a very reliable source who is deep into this project and the name for it is Canadian Sporter Rifle and it seems it will resemble an AK more then anything straight from the factory.

Oh I cant wait.
 
I think my blood pressure has actually gone up over the last few days. Nothing is going to do until we get some actual pictures of these rifles (and prices).
 
The less we call this thing an ak or tantal or anything prohib the better, no point feed the ignorant false buzzwords to get this project killed. It's the Canadian sporting rifle. It's not a tantal, it's not an ak. Like what was posted, urban tactical leaked these early, lets hope the sewing circle gossip from this fallout won't give the RCMP any fuel to go type 97 on these. This gun makes me go from six to midnight, as it is sofa king cool. Conveniently magpul appears to b making ak mags, so ak pmags sound cool, and the ability to run ak furniture is awesome. I will wait for some other dealers names to be posted and get on those lists. But I won't get ahead of myself, I assume this wasn't supposed to be released yet for a reason.

I would be more in for that than a 7.62x39 version. A US company sells a magazine adapter/trigger-guard that allows the use of AR15 Magazines and Grips. Though, It likely wouldn't be too hard to replicate...

I was doing some google-fu last night, and poland currently uses a 5.56 nato rifle called the "Beryl". It's based on the Tantal. They're in the states; called an "Archer" I think
